Former Donald Trump lawyer Sidney Powell has pleaded guilty to six charges in the Georgia election interference case.

Powell, who pushed false claims about the 2020 election results, reached a deal with prosecutors and will now testify at the trial.

There are 18 co-defendants, including the former president, in the case.

She faced charges of conspiracy to commit intentional interference of election duties.

In exchange for her sentence of six years of probation, Powell must testify truthfully at future trials - a huge win for prosecutors in the sweeping election-fraud case, given her intimate involvement in Mr Trump's fight to overturn the state's election results.

The deal also required her to record a proffer, essentially giving a verbal account of all her activities in the case, and to pay a fine and write an apology letter to Georgia citizens.

Powell entered her guilty plea in a downtown Atlanta courtroom on Thursday, a day before her trial was set to start.

Prosecutors have accused her of being among a group of Trump officials and supporters who breached the elections system in rural Coffee County, Georgia, in January 2021, with the goal of proving that the election was rigged against Mr Trump.

Specifically, Powell was accused of hiring a forensics team and sending them to Coffee County to illegally access government computers to look at voter data.

Prosecutors had said she conspired to tamper with voting machines, electronic ballots and voter data, have ballots taken from a polling place, and stop an election worker from doing her job.

The ex-Trump lawyer was one of the most visible, and vocal, supporters of Mr Trump's false claims on the 2020 election.

She notably appeared at a press conference with other Trump lawyers in November 2020, where she alleged, without evidence, that US voting machines - run by Dominion Voting Systems - can be hacked to "take a certain percentage of votes from President Trump and flip them to President (Joe) Biden".

At a White House meeting the following month, Mr Trump mulled appointing Powell as a special counsel to "investigate allegations of voter fraud in Georgia and elsewhere", prosecutors said.

The congressional committee investigating the 6 January Capitol riot featured her prominently in its televised hearings last year, showing how she worked closely with Mr Trump and his aides on strategies to keep him in the White House.

Dominion has sued Powell for defamation, seeking $1.3 bn (£1.7 bn) in restitution.

Mr Trump has pleaded not guilty in his Georgia election fraud case. In total, the former president faces 13 felony counts - including racketeering - for allegedly pressuring Georgia officials to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election in that state.

He has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, and has described the case as being politically motivated.

Powell is the second person among the defendants to plead guilty in the Georgia election interference case.

Bail bondsman Scott Hall struck a plea deal with prosecutors in late September.

The former Republican poll watcher is also accused of trying to gain access to sensitive election equipment in Coffee County, Georgia.

As part of the plea deal, he was sentenced to five years probation. He is also required to testify against others in future trials.

They have  probably threatened her to plead guilty on what - that she was in the room with 18 people discussing  the results of the election and that will still go nowhere as she would not be able to claim that Trump threatened anybody to change the results.   You got a newspaper report = but have no idea whether the report is BS or not.    Why wqas she harged separately from th e rest of the accused?     Sounds another phony to me.    .      .

"Powell, who pushed false unsubstantiated claims about the 2020 election results, reached a deal with prosecutors and will now testify at the trial."
They cheated for sure, only the gullible believe Sleepy Joe got upwards of 80M votes...not even the votes of all the dead people of the last 4 years could account for that...the things they make people beloeve...WTAF???

Now even the people making the claims are saying it was false, but the sheep still cant think.

Looks like she has thrown Trump and the rest of them under the bus to save herself- however it is the first testimony - and the rest are going to fall like domino's.

My only concern is how long this has taken to get this stage.

The timing could blow up the Republican 2024 ticket. As for the phony claim by our South African expert on US politics….let me explain. No doubt the prosecutors  put pressure on all the defendents in the form of a plea deal….agree to what we want or you are going to jail.

In this instance the plea deal was reached with one of  their best options Sidney Powell. And it was damn humiliating, including writing a letter of apology to Georgia citizens. You don’t accept those terms unless you are in real trouble.

Ms Powell never struck me as particularly bright and she clearly never had much sense of self preservation. Now anything Trump said, serious or not, will be exposed. It could be devastating.

These people behaved like a bunch of fools and the Dems are reeling them in. Republicans need to smarten up and fast. Only Nikki Halley  has shown a bit of savvy in the debates.

The presence of the MAGA base poses a challenge in finding a conservative candidate capable of winning a general election.

The loss of Paul Ryan was significant. He exemplified a strong conservative role model who could appeal to independents, but he would have struggled to gain support from the MAGA base.

Among the candidates, Nikki Haley stands out as the most sensible choice, with the ability to win over independents due to her moderate image—except when attempting to court the MAGA base.

The MAGA base has grown increasingly radical, and the division in America appears to be primarily rooted in economic issues.

Globalization has disproportionately affected rural areas compared to urban centers, leaving the rural population feeling neglected.

The impact of foreign imports and other factors has been particularly harsh on primary and secondary industries in rural areas, while simultaneously witnessing a rise in the offshoring of city-type jobs.

This underscores the underlying economic agenda of MAGA: a concern that the US government prioritizes GDP and corporate profits over the welfare of the majority, neglecting the retention of jobs within the country rather than offshoring them.

CheeseBro has also pleaded guilt on live TV.
A 5 year suspeneded sentence and community service.
He has agreed to testify against the other co-defendents.

-----------
The remainder are going to start flipping like cheap Mcdonalds patties. If they leave it too late, they go to jail.

----
And Jack Smith is making a deal with Sidney Powell on the federal cases as well.
