As for Mexico paying for the wall, this exerpt from the Trade dialogue explains how they are already paying:
'The wage hikes required in Mexico will undoubtedly raise the cost of production of North American cars. Higher Mexican wages may discourage auto makers in Canada and the U.S. to relocate to Mexico.'
So they are going to pay, and a lot more than the cost of the wall. Getting it into the right pocket remains a challenge.

It's essential, given the nature of the problem......maybe you don't need this on the Irish border. But when there is an industry to get people in the US illegally, and many of those people are undesirable immigrants.....you need it.
And now there is new fibre optic technology available to identify tunnels to a depth of 250 feet.
Put those two elements together and you get control.

The wall ain't a bad idea in principle.
The only problem is that the Zetas will build you a 20-30-40km long tunnel in no time.
Tunnels already exist anyway. Right now they're used for drugs. If a wall goes up, more tunnels will appear and they'll be used for crossing. 20m of tunnel per day would be quite easy, even on a limited budget and that would give you a 2km long tunnel in three months.
So at the very least, the wall will have to be accompanied by ground penetrating heat sensors...If such a thing exists.
