Tesla’s new Cyber truck backie has arrivedStaff Writer22 November 2019

Elon Musk has unveiled Tesla’s new Cybertruck – an electric pickup truck which will retail from $39,900 (R588,332).

While the launch event was marred as the vehicle’s shatterproof windows broke, critics were ultimately impressed by the Cybertruck’s specifications.

Musk said that the Cybetruck’s powerful drivetrain and low-centre-of gravity provides extraordinary traction control and torque – enabling acceleration from 0-60 mph in as little as 2.9 seconds and up to 500 miles of range.

Other features include:

  • Exoskeleton – A smooth monochrome exoskeleton that puts the shell on the outside of the car and provides you and your passengers maximum protection;
  • Tesla armour glass – Ultra-strong glass and polymer-layered composite can absorb and redirect impact force for improved performance and damage tolerance;
  • Utility – Up to 3,500 pounds of payload capacity and adjustable air suspension, and engineered with 100 cubic feet of exterior, lockable storage;
  • Towing – Tesla said that the Cybbertruck has the ability to pull ‘near infinite mass’ and a towing capability of over 14,000 pounds;
  • Adaptive air suspension – Raise and lower suspension four inches in either direction for easy access to Cybertruck or the vault, while self-levelling capabilities adapt to any occasion and assist with every job;
  • Interior – Seat six comfortably with additional storage under the second-row seats. Complete with an advanced 17” touchscreen with an all-new customized user interface.

I like it.

I'm guessing battery time time takes knock when it's dragging 4 tons?

If they continue breaking new ground with batteries, we'll all be going electric.

Seen some stuff about very fast charge times. Also read that the latest  technology increases power per cm2 seven times.

Probably doesn't translate directly, but it does mean that the range for electric cars is way beyond even the most economical fossil fuel versions.

560km per charge is the current average. Multiply that by 7? That's over 3000km between plugins. And these are batteries currently being tested and refined.

Somebody needs to patent a retrofit banana branch exhaust kit for electric cars.

There's franchise opportunity in Welkom.

Plus, you still need diesel to keep the battery warm

Smart bakkie. I'm impressed by the price too...cost much less than I would have thought.

Put together with chewing gum and sold with subsidies. No doubt we will eventually see a Tesla in every automotive niche.  But the maximum range for a battery operated aircraft looks to be limited to less than 200 miles for the foreseeable future. So thankfully no Tesla airplanes .....good news for those who  prefer the wings to stay on.

Must say I am surprise at the demand for this bakkie.......

Sure the price is right if you intend to use it for grocery shopping and the Starbucks drive through.

An additional  Hollywood type of transport to have parked on the driveway in LA  and for the yuppies to record on their Apple phones.

Give me a good old red Ford bakkie and I am happy.
