Imagine my surprise when suddenly two blokes fishing at Strandfontein popped up in a commercial break on the news in the USA. There they were in a locale where I had spent hundreds of hours seeking the elusive Kob....in an ad for some medication. It seems a great number of medical and car ads are now being shot in CT. Who knows what relatively mundane view of the city will pop up next. A bit weird but whenever I see CT my heart skips a beat.

If you want to fish at Strandfontein these days, you'd better pack a gun during day time... don't go night time.

Nice denny....I haven't seen them all, but CT is the best of what I've seen. Draad we often used to fish until just before dark ....and in my surfing days if there was a big swell and promise of a dawn offshore wind, pitch our tents on the beach. Never a problem. I finally stopped surfing in CT in about 2005, because you were never sure who would accost you for money when you left the water.....and whether that would be enough.

Used to fish Strandfontein in my youth...only a handful of anglers then....caught many kob, elf (shad) white steenbras, galjoen and belman (baardman) then....right up to Swartklip.

Yes Draad, I read about the safety aspect in recent times...anglers getting mugged, vehicles been broken in to in this area but also on the West Coast too, Melkbos, Blouberg, even Elands Bay (awesome surfing in my day and even Lamberts Bay way up and west of Clanwilliam etc....very sad.

Nobody can relax in these conditions and spoils that aspect of fishing...it also happens right up the coast (with very few exceptions) Arniston, Stilbaai being relatively safe but the Eastern Cape through the Transkei is dicey and on the Natal South Coast and North Coast you just cannot fish after dark.

It breaks my heart...I loved surf fishing and thats why I seldom do it unless I'm invited to a ski boat and get out to sea .

Anyway we still have our tranquil trout, yellowfish streams and rivers and that's where I find peace and solace but I certainly remember those palmy days in the surf in the Cape.

Wow!! That's so sad.

Our beautiful country has been turned into a war zone.

Verwoed and his theories seem to be proven right every day.

Hilbrow and Sunny Park used to be awesome venues to party and meet people. Now it's suicide to go there at night.

What hasn't the black man destroyed in this country?
