On June 3rd, our world changed forever. Our dearest friend Lloyd Solomon suffered a serious brain haemorrhage and was rushed into emergency surgery in Seoul, South Korea, where he has lived and taught for the past seven years. The operation was a success, but Lloyd remains in ICU, facing a long and uncertain road to recovery.
He is showing signs of responsiveness—he’s able to communicate a little, and has shown some movement. But the reality is that Lloyd has a long journey ahead of him, including months of intensive rehabilitation, specialist care, and emotional support.
Who is Lloyd
Lloyd Solomon is many things to many people:
- A fiercely loyal friend
- A devoted son and loving brother
- A man who always put others first
- A shoulder to cry on, a voice of reason, and sometimes, the one to crack a wildly inappropriate joke when you needed it most
- He’s an avid Arsenal supporter, a mediocre but passionate golfer, and an unapologetic Tom Jones fan. If you know Lloyd, you know the kind of person he is: someone who would give you the shirt off his back, stand by you no matter what, and show up for you—even when it wasn’t easy.
Now, it’s our turn to show up for him.
Why we need your help
Lloyd is currently in a foreign hospital system, far from home and from many of his loved ones. While his friends in South Korea have been doing all they can, the cost of care is significant and continues to climb daily. His recovery will require:
- Specialist neurological rehabilitation
- Physiotherapy & occupational therapy
- Assisted care during recovery
- Ongoing medical bills, medication, and potential relocation expenses
- We’re aiming to raise R800,000 to support Lloyd’s medical needs, rehabilitation, and to ease the financial burden on his family during this unimaginably difficult time.
Let’s rally around Lloyd like he’s always rallied around us (sic)
Many of us have experienced Lloyd’s unwavering support first hand. He’s the guy who would drop everything to help, who always answered the phone, and who made you feel seen and loved.
Whether you’ve known him for years or just crossed paths with him briefly—if Lloyd touched your life, please consider giving back now.
