Is it because some grew up in the Bluff or Bellville or some in Constantia or Kloof or went to Hilton, Bishops, Michaelhouse or Paarl Boys. Human nature prefers birds of a feather. It is a social tendency to congregate with the familiar and not venture out of parameters set by the people who set these standards. I rebel against conformity EXCEPT where manners and consideration is concerned...I'm a classist, not a racialist...manners make a man and a lady and strong character .

I'm different and curious...I want to know how others feel and react from a different background. I'm not a snob, but I hate uncouth people with selfish, inconsiderate bad manners. It's the way I was brought up. Manners definitely make a man and character.

You are saying people differ- then you outline your conservative credentials to justify your opinion and morality. You often imply that you have class, and this is just another post trying to justify your existence...
Class is not gained through associations to schools, churches, areas, wealth etc. Lots of people were born millionaires, but that does not give them class and vice versa.
This is a covert way of implying your ideals are the measuring stick, even when you do not uphold them.
It is like supporting a football team, it does not make you good at football- nor does idle associations with things you believe to be good.
Sunday school stuff....

It's clear that Tit is labouring under the delusion that he's this refined and well-educated gentleman who is so much better than the rest of us . . . while everyone else sees him as a whiny, boring, attention-seeking and stupid old drunkard.
Maybe this will serve as a much-needed intervention for the pompous and delusional hypocrite . . . but I'm guessing he'll just get even more preachy and indignant.

Manners do not maketh the man.

Actions and their consequences do.

If manners were an indicator as to your character then we can safely say that Hitler was a good man because I bet he was very well mannered.

Nobody likes pretentious people and there is strong case for manners being pretentious.

They're not a bad thing necessarily, but not really a prerequisite to being a good person

If I had to pick a few traits that defined a person's quality, I'd say empathy would be right at the top and should be followed closely by generosity and self-awareness.

It's easy to give what doesn't cost you anything. Give me a ru de person that cares about others over a well mannered hypocrite any day.

Well put Plum, you nailed it.

Seb what about Glenwood and DHS, they also have their share of the individuals who are gentlemen to say the least.

Plum...Hitler had manners?...LOL..you're not serious really? .

. He was a screaming, lowlife lunatic.

Manners extend much more further than etiquette. Yes indeed it requires caring, benevolence, moral decency and respect for your fellowman.

Typing derogatory insults based on presumption and assumption on others  that you obviously don't know...shows your true colours. Don't judge others but it is easy for a good, truthful and unselfish  person to  to discern evil.

We all have many faults and sometimes step over the line at times but the biggest hypocrites here calling others here hypocrites is the biggest farce of all. Sweep your own house first before you  demand others to sweep their's. Remove the log in your own eye before trying to pick the speck out of your brothers eye...then you might be able to see clearly.
