when I tripped over and fell while going for a run this morning. The main injury was above the right eye as my head hit the pavement. Blood poured from the gash which was the main wound besides deeps cuts to my knee and abrasions to my face and leg. My main concern was the loss of blood as I'm on a medication which thins the blood. Anyway, I now had to walk back the 3km home and my main concern was how much blood I'd lose before I got home. Fortunately one of the residents happened to be working in his garden and I asked him for a cloth to stem the flow of blood and then continued my walk. There must have been dozens of cars passing on what is a main road and I guess several would have noticed the shape I was in......no-one stopped. Eventually a small car with two guys in it pulled up in front of me, one of them jumped out and offered me a lift home saving me a 1km walk. The two Samaritans are perhaps Indians, Sri Lankans or Bangladeshi.... i'm guessing.
It reminded me of a time when I rolled my car on the side of the mountain in the very early hours of a Sunday morning heading out from East London. Several cars passed before one stopped and offered my wife and I a lift into the nearest town. These guys were black South Africans. Before dropping us off they made a couple of stops in townships to drop in on friends or relatives. They could very easily have beaten us up, raped my wife and robbed us leaving us for dead.
The purpose of this most is not to gather anyone's sympathy, the purpose of my post is to simply point out that there are good and bad across all nationalities regardless of race and religion. It might be a good thing if the racists amongst us had likewise experiences so as to wipe the pigmentation from their mindset.

Denny,  I  wish you a speedy recovery. I agree with the essence of your post and I must say that I think in Southh Africa,  you might have been helped sooner. Way back in 1992, a friend's car broke down on the N2 in the Nyanga/Gugs area. At that time there were some serious unrest in the area. The police stopped and offered us a lift out of the area. They said it was too dangerous to stay. My friend did not want to leave his car. The police didn't want to hang around and left. We went into the township to borrow some tools. The locals were friendly and eager to help. They came with us to the car and helped us to get going again. This was in the early hours of the morning BTW. We were students and on our way back from a party in Town. Good old days!

Tx guys, I owe you a beer when I eventually visit. My plan was to lose 5kgs before I go on holidays in 17 days time  hence the rigorous exercise, now I'm more concerned about losing the pain!
