Senior Iranian clerics have called for the assassination of President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring in a 10-point statement that killing "the criminal American president" and "the wicked prime minister of the Zionist regime" is a religious duty.
The statement, signed by around 63 members of Iran's 88-member Assembly of Experts, described both leaders as "mahdour al-dam" ("deserving of death") and said anyone able to reach them is obliged to "send them to hell" to avenge the killing of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
The Assembly's secretariat later distanced itself from the statement. The calls come despite ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations aimed at preserving a fragile ceasefire.
