So Vicky Momberg(spelling) has being given a prison sentence for calling black police officers kaffirs.

Indeed it's despicable. There is a deep, long and sad history that accompanies that word.

Nobody should be using it and it's a shame that this woman decided to act in a racist way toward cops that were trying to help her.

Haven't read the case but I assume she's been jailed on the basis of hate speech. Hate speech directed at an individual, or a handful of individuals.

If that's how it is then that's how it is.

Doesn't bother me much since I don't go around calling people kaffirs anyway.

Still, how many people do so in private, on text message, email or in telephone conversations?

It was recently noted that Whatsap is being monitored by South African authorities making use of word and phrase recognition algorithms to hunt for criminals and racists.

Cool. Money well spent I guess.

I am assuming that if I went on stage, in front of thousands of people and exclaimed...

"Let all of us whites take blackness out back and shoot it in the head, like it deserves to be shot. Lets feed it's remains to the birds who are more worthy of life."

...and if this statement was then televised nationally I'd probably have ended both my career and given up my freedom.

Hate speech?

By definition seeks to cause harm  and/or to inspire others to cause harm. The larger the inspired group is the more potential there is for harm.

Vicky got three years for using the word kaffir on multiple occasions. Using it as a personal insult. Not using it to inspire majority groups to commit violence against minorities.

So when Malman called for "the throat of whiteness to be cut" recently, in front of masses of applauding fans...he wasn't even asked to apologise for his outright racism nor his much more serious crime of incitement to violence.

This is the fascist fascist masquerading as psuedo liberal country SA has become.

How is one supposed to remain level headed and open minded?

What happened to freedom of speech. That was despicable, but not even hate speach. It's bad, but not as bad as the guys getting 15 odd for forcing that bloke into the coffin. Malema se moer! Politics is starting to piss people off in this "cunttree"

She is effectively going to prison for being rank rude and a bit of a bitch.

She probably deserves a court fine, and perhaps community service and at most a suspended sentence. The ANC used to be the left wing, they are now the far right wing. They are the established order that wants to maintain the status quo. The DA is left and progressive.

The  ANC will probably try to restrict press and public freedom of speech will be restricted further over time- unless the DA party gets more votes .

The left gone ballistic or is it the law going over the top? Personally I agree it's way over the top and in comparison to say the Oscar Pretorius case for a bit of perspective one would say he got off lightly.

As for freedom of speech, she had it, I don't recall a POC being arrested for vilifying a white cop in the near 50 years of Apartheid. And there's good reason for that. Having had personal experience of what happened after being arrested is another chapter.....down at the charge office the cops would form a circle with you in the middle and they'd belt and kick the sh!t out of you while having huge grins on their faces. After that you'd be thrown into a cell until it's time for your court appearance. Geez I c ould have done so much better with all of your support back then.

That said, in America, the cops as we all know, would for a lot less or for even for no creditable reason at all would just have stiffed her.

Denny, it was bad back then... fucked up beyond reason, but we are supposed to be better than that now. How the fck can you send someone to prison for being a bit of a doos? It doesn't make sense.

Hard to argue with that Denny.

I'm fine with her going to prison if that is what the law requires now.

All I want is for the law to be applied equally. That is what I was taught justice is.

At some point, the whites now will do what the blacks did back then. Take up arms.

Considering Russia and China's interest in SA...and how the US will get involved in a proxy war just to piss them off...do we really wanna be in the middle?

The land grab right now. It's a blatant move towards comminism under the guise of correcting the "original sin".

The west is aware of it and will be looking for any reason to get involved if it means preventing the formation of another communist state and worse an ideological ally to the east.

".....it was bad back then... fucked up beyond reason, but we are supposed to be better than that now."

True.

The Mandela dream is gone and it disappeared under Zuma. I believe SA is sadly race obsessed but I think there's several issues that come into play which has brought about an untenable circumstance.

Unemployment at 28% and youth unemployment at 52% with the populous movement under Malemna gaining strength I believe minority groups are in for a tough time. Ramaphosa and the ANC will choke down on liberal moves just to gain votes prior to the pending election. As it stands the ANC alliance is in a rubbery state.

The woman's behaviour was disgusting but it was emotional only and tainted with fear and past indoctrinations...the words were cruel but being robbed and hijacked in this country is particularly a traumatic event (more so for a woman) which happens all too frequently and nothing done at all.

I know, I was hijacked by 3 gunmen and taken hostage for 5 hours with them telling me they were going to execute me...the Russian roulette scene in "The Deer Hunter" by Vietcong was less stressful than this...they were going to kill me...I can understand and speak Zulu and I could understand what their intentions were...it was a horrific ordeal...I could write a short book about it.

Coming back to this...it's one sided hypocrisy...Malema can use hate speech and kill the whites, in particular the Boers and this is extremely dangerous and it goes without any prosecution (or failed attempts).

She should have been fined only and warned...2 years in prison won't "reform" her at all...in fact the very opposite as here will be victim scarred by even more hatred.

The trouble with this country, murders, rape and robbery often go ignored by the SAP and that's a fact...they never caught the hijackers in my case and nothing was attempted and I honestly believe the police involved in my case were in coho rts with it...no I'm very serious but there is far more than this that serves no purpose on cynical outlooks.
