I would have preferred Judges Zondo or Mlambo as Chief Justice - but there is a problem in this case. The first isssue is that Judge Zondo have two years to go before his term as Deputy Chief Justice ends and I think that the Commission wants a full term Chief Justice and not an intermediate one.
The second reason is that Justice Maya is head of the Supreme Court, while Mlambo heads the lower North Gauteng High Court. But as Judge President of the Supreme Court Maya has also been clean of anything negative and has always followed the straight line when it came to the crooks in Government and they suffered as a result.
The Zuma lovers - and those include the EFF also in the firing line when it comes to corruption - hate Zondo and Mlambo Mlambo has consistently ruled against the Zuma and Public Protector's shenanigans and is probably after Zondo the most disliked judge by the Zuma supporting crowd.
When Zondo leaves in two years time he is likely to be succeeded by Mlambo - or I hope he is.
