The west is well aware of the consequences, that's why its actions have been generally quite well measured and thought out.

In case you didn't notice the west hasn't provided Ukraine with longer range rocket artillery or allowed Ukraine to attack targets in Russian territory with western supplied weaponry. It didn't over react to missile that hit Poland, that turned out to be Ukrainian or then try to blame the Russian's for it.

Those who are calling for negotiations with the tacit implication that Ukraine be the side who makes the concessions also do not want to acknowledge the potential consequence of such a course of action. .
