Maryland Lab provides a ray of light...

The government lab in Maryland has just shown that the virus half life of 18 hours on surfaces at 70 degrees is cut to 2 minutes in sunlight. It also drops steadily with increases in temperature and humidity.

It is killed by alcohol sprays in 30 seconds and in 5 minutes for bleach.

Apparently no other lab in the country is able to provide this level of granularity. But it does provide strong support for those who believe higher temps will help and perhaps helps explain part of the outperformance by Florida and California..

We jumped from 3605 to just under 4000 cases overnight ... with an additional 10 deaths (85).

Things are picking up pace here and we're about to go into out colder months.

The northern hemisphere is approaching summer and hopefully will see a dramatic decline in infections.

Silly Cyril has come up with a plan to kick start our "economy" ... stage 4 ... allows a third of the work force to return from May 1st. Not sure how he intends policing this.

Wearing masks is recommended but still not enforced.

The sale of cigarettes will be permitted but booze is still a no no.

We are even allowed to exercise ... under strict guidelines.

I expect to see dramatic increased in infections and the death toll will undoubtedly skyrocket.

We'll see whether we reach stage 3 or return to stage 5.

Sure - the stupidity continues - but what can they do?  We have been under a extremely bad Government for at least 20 years and we are eating the rotten fruits of that.   

The virus has broken the back of the country and I do not see how we are going to overcome it and survive,   The world economy has collapsed and South Africa has no future,  I have lived too long - I would rather have been gone by now.  

My thoughts are with you and the younger people more than anything else. 

Ag no man Mike...this will blow over too. Don't be so depressed, the Boks will play again and life will go on. You've got a good bunch of years ahead of you still...It's kak ATM, but life always finds a way...us South Africans too.

Maybe this virus will be the catalyst to put South Africa back on the right track.

We are 90 days into the Virus....there are less than 200,000 deaths and most of the world’s population has already had a chance of being infected.

I agree with Draad, all is not lost.

Our testing is finally picking up, so it's only to be expected that our cases will jump.

Going back to level 5 is not even an option. It will wreck the country. Not making masks mandatory is a big oversight.

We suffered three years of drought, towns and farms became dust bowls, many farmers quit, lost everything and copped bad debt to boot , then came the fires, whole towns were devastated, people lost their homes and struggling businesses were wiped forever, then came the floods and just as the nation was taking a sigh of relief along came the Coronavirus.

No-one in this mighty nation thinks of quitting.
