I will not be too surprised if the the eventual solution comes up along the lines of immune treatment. Cancer treatments are rapidly moving towards immune treatment. At this stage it is mainly used for melanoma, breast cancer and, importantly, lung cancer.
A very basic way of explaining is this. The biggest challenge when it comes to cancer treatment is that the cancer cels have a way of disguising themselves as healthy cells, making it impossible for your own immune system to detect and fight them. Immunotherapy attacks the cancer cells to remove this capability while kind of putting your own immune system in turbo boost to fight the cancer cells.
