Jeff retired past Saturday, he had a wonderful farewell. Says he wants to put time into his apprenticed son who's riding in the state of Victoria.

Jeff has health problems and I thought he was already retired.   His son was for a short while at Summerveld last year - but then returned to Australia,   

I spoke to  Joy Barendse on her 98th birthday - she is still going strong,      

I don't know Joy Barendse, what I do know is that Jeff has won the QLD jockey premiership 4 years in a row including this year. He retires on a career high and with the respect of the racing fraternity.

Jeff is married to Joy Barendse granddaughter and she and Jeff's wife - ie his mother in law and Joy are the people I speak to rather regularly.  Also when we had dinner together and I introduced you to him - - Joy Barendse stayed with Jeff in Sydney.
