Looks like there are papers being published with the claim that mushrooms are growing on Mars.
I mentioned mycelium on here previously. The thread-like networks of the fungal vegetative body, which are to the plant and animal kingdom what us humans are to skyscrapers. Nothing short of amazing chemistry going on with this stuff.
We can just barely get our heads around how mycelium forms, regulates and evolves the relationships that it does with other organisms present in the soil. It only has a single cell wall yet regulates entire ecosystems from the bottom up.
Easily one of the smartest organisms on the planet and damn nice to see it's a frontrunner in the panspermia hypothesis.
