New York Times columnist Tom Friedman penned an op-ed that warned the United States risks being inadvertently dragged into direct war with Russia due to its support for Ukraine.

"If you just followed the news reports on Ukraine, you might think that this war has settled into a long, grinding, and somewhat boring slog. You would be wrong," Friedman, a longstanding opinion columnist for the Times, wrote.

The article, titled "The War is Getting More Dangerous for America, and Biden Knows It," asserts that "things are actually getting more dangerous day by day."

"The longer this war goes on, the more opportunity for catastrophic miscalculations," Friedman wrote.

Friedman pointed to two recent leaks; one that the United States provided Ukrainian forces with intelligence used to kill Russian generals, and the second that America provided intelligence to Ukrainian forces to sink Russia’s Moskva, its flagship battleship.

Friedman reported how President Biden never intended for the U.S.’s involvement in these strikes to be known, and was "livid" when said knowledge became public.

"From everything I have been able to glean from senior U.S. officials, who spoke to me on condition of anonymity, the leaks were not part of any thought-out strategy, and President Biden was livid about them," he wrote. "The staggering takeaway from these leaks is that they suggest we are no longer in an indirect war with Russia but rather are edging toward direct war — and no one has prepared the American people or Congress for that."

He continued, "Vladimir Putin surely has no illusions about how much the U.S. and NATO are arming Ukraine with material and intelligence, but when American officials start to brag in public about playing a role in killing Russian generals and sinking the Russian flagship, killing many sailors, we could be creating an opening for Putin to respond in ways that could dangerously widen this conflict — and drag the U.S. in deeper than it wants to be."

Friedman also warned that while he admires what he views as Zelensky’s "heroism and leadership", the Ukrainian president has a vested interest in increasing American involvement in the conflict even if it is not in the United States’ best interest.

"President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has been trying to do the same thing [involve America in the conflict] from the start — to make Ukraine an immediate member of NATO or get Washington to forge a bilateral security pact with Kyiv," Friedman wrote. "I am in awe of Zelensky’s heroism and leadership. If I were him, I’d be trying to get the U.S. as enmeshed on my side as he is."

Friedman said that as an American citizen, he wants the country to do what is in its own best interest and to remain "laser-focused" so the U.S. doesn't risk of being pulled directly into the conflict.

Friedman concluded by cautioning that America is "dealing with some incredibly unstable elements" including a "politically wounded Putin."

"Boasting about killing [Putin’s] generals and sinking his ships, or falling in love with Ukraine in ways that will get us enmeshed there forever, is the height of folly," he wrote.

It is quite possible that the Biden useless Maladministration - who is at present orchestrating the War in Ukraine - and is hugely unpopular in the USA - may actually get the country into wars in a desperate effort to save the Democratic Party.

The latter Party is trying to turn the USA into a dictatorship of the Party and is using Communist practices like brainwashing of children in schools, and a new Board to undermine press freedom in the USA as well as undermining election processes in the USA.   They will likely not succeed in those efforts without a war  that would unify the  politically divided country.

The corrupt Biden Administration is orchestrating  the war in Ukraine and using it as a proxy war against Russia - a dangerous  situation at best.   However, there are still in the Democratic Party some responsible politicians that will prevent the country from being dragged into a war against Russia by the corrupt Biden crowd and by his main puppet masters - Obama and Soros.

By the way Zelenskyy has Biden by the shorts - he has the evidence to send him, Pelosi and Schiff - as well as Kerry and a lot of other Democrats  - to jail for corruption in Ukraine.   That makes the world a very dangerous place.

Odd how we went right from Covid to WW3. One terribly managed problem to the next. …and to top it off, the FED are forcing a recession. Great leadership from everyone involved.

I'm going to very kind.

This is a beautiful exquisite cartoon getting the very deep message of what Russia is fighting for...they want to preserve, their heritage, their culture, their values.

We westerners are missing it completely...we do not understand...we judge things wrongly...we never listen.

This the Red line.

". . . they want to preserve, their heritage, their culture, their values."
. . . and to achieve that they invade a sovereign country? What about Ukrainian heritage, culture and values?
Stop bleating about no-one understanding and make some sense for a change. I know you think you're a Russian because you drink a lot of vodka and you found a bride on a Russian catalogue, but you sound like a complete idiot who knows as much about Russia as ou Maaik knows about history.

What a miserable and disgraceful human being you really are Rooitwat.

It is amazing just how low you can go and still claim to be educated.

Stick to the subject matter and stop dragging all posts into the Lefty gutter.

The unfortunate part is that you know diddly squat about the Russian-Ukraine history and I gather from your posting that the Russian Empire was not part of what you understand and appreciate.

Pity.....

Rooinek - the total simpleton

The Eastern Part  of Ukraine - incorporated by the  Communist Party in 1953 to off-set the Ukrainian vote in the then Soviet Republic - has a majority Russian population who were under attack in the Ukraine by the Ukraine army and thir representatives in the Ukraine Parliament were arrested and all Parties other than the one supporting Zelenskyy was banned as well.    Russian speaking people were also fined for speaking Russian in public.

That was provocation and indeed an attack on  the Russian elelemnts residing in Ukraine itself and indeed an attack on  Russian   "heritage, their culture, their values"

You lost it completely again because you are indeed a fool and an idiot at the same time.    .

How is the protection of Russian speaking people in Ukraine poking the West?   The whole Ukraine situation was used since 2014 to enrich the Democratic Party crime families with kickbacks from US aid grants.    The moment $40  billion  foreign aid  grant was approved - Pelosi and Schiff - both involved in kickbacks from Ukraine in the past - turned up in Kiev obviously to finalize the kick back process.

The fact is that Biden said he wants to have Putin removed as President of Russia - who the hell is that bloody crook trying to impress.   Macron was caught in the middle by that remark since it bedeviled his negotiations with Russia.

Biden sabotaged all  efforts   to find a peaceful solution to the Ukraine situation and with his administration in serious trouble  with the voters - he is using the Ukraine to draw attention away from his daily fare of lies and deception.

Like I said before, the invasion of Ukraine is a total over reaction by Russia, but lets not pretend the West has no dirty hands in this conflict.

The West are effectively at war with Russia for whatever sick reasons...and I don't see any diplomats standing up to the task to at least try and diffuse matters. It almost look as if things are deliberately being escalated...Clown World indeed.
