This from the BBC:

Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin was on the passenger list of a jet which crashed killing all on board, Russia's civil aviation authority has said.

Earlier, Wagner-linked Telegram channel Grey Zone reported the Embraer aircraft was shot down by air defences in the Tver region, north of Moscow.

The private jet, which was flying from Moscow to St Petersburg, was carrying seven passengers and three crew.

Prigozhin led a failed mutiny against the Russian armed forces in June.

Grey Zone said local residents heard two bangs before the crash and saw two vapour trails.

Tass news agency said the plane, an Embraer Legacy belonging to Prigozhin, caught fire on hitting the ground.

The aircraft had been in the air for less than half an hour, it said.

An investigation has been launched into the crash and emergency services are searching the site.

Another news agency, Ria, said eight bodies had been recovered.

Grey Zone reports that a second business jet owned by Prigozhin landed safely in the Moscow region.

So how safe is the Embraer:

To date, almost 200 Legacy 600s have been built, with only one having ever been involved in an accident.

In September 2006, a brand new Legacy 600 was being flown from the Embraer factory in Brazil, to its operator based in the US, when it collided with a Gol 737-800 mid-air.

Although the Legacy 600 suffered serious damage to its left horizontal stabilizer and winglet, the pilot would be able to land the jet safely at a nearby Brazilian Air Force base, without any injuries or fatalities.

…..

So pretty safe, safe enough to survive a mid air collision….but not safe enough to protect Prigozhin.

"Another very Christian move by the Boertjie pin up."

What a silly remark...more Souties on this board on that bandwagon...maybe you should re-evaluate you own sense of fairness...

Putin doesn’t know who did this, nor did he order the hit…he didn’t have to order it. One of his loyal lieutenants understood what he wanted. Five years from now he will get a surprise invite to one of the many Putin dachas and be given  a gold Rolex.

A previously very safe executive jet falls out of the sky at altitude, the safest place in the air?

Nope…this plane was destroyed.

‘As the drama unfolded, Mr Putin was addressing a gathering in Kursk, hailing the victory of Soviet troops over German invaders 80 years ago. Russian prosecutors, who promptly shut down an investigation into Mr Prigozhin’s mutiny after he accepted a deal to go into exile in Belarus, were quick to open an investigation into a violation of “air traffic and safety rules”. The Russian public may learn that it was a pilot’s mistake or a fault in the plane that brought Mr Prigozhin to his end. In Russia, nobody expects to be told the truth’

‘Nobody expects to be told the truth’ ….tell that to the Russia bots on here.

A video is stilll being verified, but of true it shows the aeroplane falling with one wing. The theory is that the Russian military shot a wing off.

One of the favourite songs amongst Russian students in Moscow...a group of students from Moscow university were playing this song in the hotel where I was staying...they asked us to join them for a snack and a glass of wine afterwards...most spoke good english and intelligent sharp young people. They are beautiful people.

It's a song from Sting
