NATO is very much controlled by the USA - with EU countries like Germany, and France playing a min or role in the organization. When the USA wants a war involving N ATO there is nothing other countries can do o prevent such a war. The USA wanted the War and since the outbreak has spent over $113 billion to support the Ukraibne Government - even paying the salaries of Government employees and the Ukraine Government itslef.
I believe that after the pan icky departure of the USA from Afghanistan another War was inevitgable. There are two many politicians and bureaucrats in Washibgton benefitting from th e War to expect anything else. Like Senator Graham said - every war is a good war.
The fact that NATO admitted that Putin warned that admission of the Ukraine dictatorship installed in the Ukraine through a coup by the USA should be confirmed by a written agreement he sent NATO and warned that such admission would lead to war indicated that it was he final straw that c aused the War,
The Western Ukaine wasz neve part ofg Russia when Peter the Great was Emperor - it was part of the Polish Confederation. It was only circa 50 years later that Catherine the Great ageed to aprtititon of Poland that part of the Western Ukraine ebcame part of Russia - the rest went to the Holy Roman Empire ruled by the Empress Maria Therese. The Peter the Great Empire BS spread by the NYT is based on historical BS beyond belief. The Eastern part of Ukraine wasz at the time part of the Crimian Sultinate also conquered by Catherine the Great and never part of Ukraine. Part of it was actually part of Russia -eg Kharkov, What is in fact Eastern Ukraine wa only incorporated into Ukraine o counter the Ukraine Nationalists and reduce their impact in Ukraine.
The Russians living in Ukraine depended for their human rights protection on the 1991 Ukraine Constitution. That Ukraine Cosntitution was cancelled out by the 2014 coup.

I listened to this man talk on this subject to an audience of University of Chicago students, I think about 2016 or it might have been a little earlier. What he said then is spot on as he predicted exactly what was going to happen. A very insightful man and he understands the subject thoroughly.

There are serious poblems with the funding of the War by the USA. The Republicans has thus fa refused to support heightening of the F Federal debt ceiling to fund the reckless expenditure by the Biden Administration and somehow the US Government has funded the War in Ukraine by $113 billion repesenting the virtual full cost of the Ukraine Budget on a year to year basis - in 2022 the whole Ukraine budge amounted to $56 billion.

The bully in this case is the USA in the ,undermining of the Constitution of Ukraine by organizing and funding of a coup in causing a start of a civil war in the country in 2014. The USA deliberately selected people who hate Russia and the Russian speaking people of Eastern Ukraine to form an Interim Government and openly support ethnic cleansing of Russian speaking people whose ancestors lived for centuries and in 1953 artificially would become part of Ukraine based on a decision of t he Communist Regime. In this case like in so many other countries in the world the USA acted in a heinous way to destroy democracy and place in charge people they can use to enhance USA interests or better still turned a corrupt country into a country where corrupt USA politicians benefit from corruption. What made it worse was the undermining of efforts by Germany and France to find a way forward for a real independent and constitutional return to Democracy was undermined by the USA since 2015. Instead of finding a peaceful solution for the civil war in Eastern Ukraine the USA actively promoted the widening of the Civil War leading to death and destruction of Ukraine.
