Virtually ever friday when I was very young we used to skip sales meetings on Friday afternoon when in Cape Town and have lunch at the Royal Cape Yacht club where there used to produce the best curry and rice meals for a few "bob" in those days. One Friday the a dude walked in and it was Richard Burton (as they were filming a part in the movie "The Wild Geese" a film set in Rhodesia (Congo) a sort of replication of Mike Hoare in that place. Next came Richard Harris and his wife Ann Turkel, then Hardy Kruger, Roger Moore and we could not believe it. Burton sat next to me and I said to him: "can I get you a drink? he said : thank you I''ll have a double brandy!

I said to Alan my mate,,,he looks like Burton and he interupted yes, I am we are filming...actually I couldn't believe it until he spoke with his beautiful voice and H arris walked in.

We had quite a session there.

We later invited them down to a braai at our cottage on 3rd Beach in Clifton...they turned up with security...it was a debauchery...Burton cleaned us up...drank the best bottles of wine on our rack after a bottle of cognac.

Seb

A nice memory of an event,

The tragedy was Burton died as a result of alcoholism in August 1985 - months after completion of the series Ellis Island  I sent to you a while back.  Did you and Elena watch it? .

Although the names were changed it was basically the real stories of people,

Yes, Mike this is something out of the ordinary...I really liked Richard, a very sharp, witty character with a very pleasant nature, a lovely speaking voice and a gentleman even though his humble background...also Richard Harris but Roger Moore despite his smooth panache on scene was rather boring, Ann Turkel is a honey,..Hardy Kruger is a typical German...although I liked him...it was a great priviledge to meet such people...especially to entertain them with our humbleness...they really enjoyed themselves...we all drank too much.

Alan my cottage mate, had photos of this event, but he died several years ago off Cape Point diving. He was very powerful but had a heart attack whilst spear fishing...Alan was my best friend,

He was an exceptional character, larger than life but a brave dare-devil. I miss him very much.

No Mike, we have not watched it but I'll certainly make a note to watch it...if every Taffy was like RB (we called him Bertie) then my opinion of Welshman would go a bit higher...only joking really.

One of my dear friends is a Taffy, who now liv es in NZ, Christchurch, we used to trout fish together...he keeps on inviting me to NZ.

I love SA but I'm tired of the crookedness and bullshit...seriously we are thinking of migrating to Georgia. Saffa's are very much welcome there...and money goes further there...I really am serious...I love that country.
