The sanctions are taking effect.
It is now around 1 dollar/ Euro for 100 "rubble", and the signs are this will continue to get worse.

China is not helping Russia by insisting that all trade is in Chinese currency(ies).
So China is benefiting from being Russia's main trading partner, as the Chinese exchange rate with the Rubble keeps growing.

The 2nd coup against Putin could be imminent. The richest in Russia are getting poorer, as is everyone else.

It reminds of the borscht should have value in London thing.
Currency appreciation is done through a basket of currencies, people trading currencies.
At the moment, Russia is part of an effort to segregate from the west world, they want to minimize the volume of trade that goes each way to favour other partners.
The valuation of a ruble against a dollar has little value.

Russia is lucky their oil is quoted in dollars and not Yuan where they would be down 5% since earlier this year…or even worse in Rubles in which case they’d be down 20%.

The dollar remains the only sensible global alternative.

C F

You lot will never learn  SA  was under sanctions for years and it never really destroyed the S A economy..   The reason is that there are too may backstabbers in the countries who supposedly apply sanctions.   Biden himself in desperation  lift sanction on fertilizers - the only difference was during the SA sanctions applied by the USA they had contracts with SA companies to provide whatsoever their embassy staff    Medical services were always used for any Americans needing  services were also provided for US citizens fo Central and Southern Africa.   That was just a small point they bought a lot of things and usually used the gulf state traders to buy from SA.

Despite the war the Ukraine gets their gas and oil needs from Russia getting it throigh  pipelines running through Ukraine to German and other central EU countries.   Besides that how many countries actually apply sanctions against Russia and is the backdoor through trade is done.

Other than the EU countries who apply "sactions" on paper and  still buy produce from Russia, the rest of the world just ignore it and trade is going on at normal rates,   The difference is that the prices citizens needs come at  higher prices than it used to because using of intermediaries add costs that the consumers have to bear and it boosts in inflation.

Anybody believing that any sanctions work will also believe the moon is made of green cheese - the only difference is that the goods will still reach the consumers but at higher prices and the weight of that is costing the ruling elite in the EU and USA   support -  EU  Governments collapse regularly and where  elections are held they pay a bitter price for idiocy supreme.    The list of EU countries that recently changed governments start with Finland,  Sweden, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria and the Spanis coalition Government is collapsing.    In Germany according to opinion polls the Governing coalition lost 30% support since i he last German election and.  The Conservative Party is in the same state of chaos as Germany.

If you believe sanctions is indeed working - then i hope you enjoy paying penalties through inflation for it.

@DumbMike,

Wake up. Inflation is dropping in Europe and the USA.
It appears as though this trend will continue.

The food inflation is largely down to your hero Putin destroying Ukraine's grain shipments.

After Covid lockdowns, there were always going to be consequences to the economy. It would have been less had Putin not been a complete imbecile.

No SB

Stop dreaming  inflation  last month in the US A show a rise again and there is no way it will drop significantly.     There were 4 major banks that collapsed in the USA and the US Government bailed them out.   The result is that the pressure on taxpayers will inevitably increase - since the US  Government prints money in quantities and cover increased expenditure through loans they get from  Chinese banks.    That is just one example.

The USA has become a kind of Fascist Socialist State where the Ultra-Rich ruled the country through a puppet in the WH.    They write out regulations which Biden has no choice but to implement it.    It happened in the case of the Green-energy (Gates) and Law and Order f(Soros) fields already and the USA moved so far to the left it is really unbelievable how the Democratic Party can sustain it.   The Ultra-Rich is only interested in enriching itself and extending their power through the World Economic Forum.

The bigger the chaos is in the world the better it is for them.    When the rest o the world suffer through the Covid Pandemic they got richer.   It is now even worse.     In the USA there were recently a report that approximately 17 million children in the USA go to bed hungry on a regular basis in the USA - add to that 250 000 unaccompanied children smuggled into the USA by the Mexican cartels and is now working as slaves in the sex and factory industries,   Please note that Open Borders is a priority program of the WEF.   In Germany of all countries food banks sell food donated by major shopping chains at reduced prices to cover food shortages to th e poor.

Besides the people increasingly in the USA cannot afford accommodation and in American cities more than a million people are living on street pavements and in parks  - where drugs are widely used and crime reigns supreme, while the circa 7 million illegals entering the country live in hotels paid for by the US Government  - but the flood is so bad that hotel space are running out and for instance New York are now considering further tent provision to migrants while citizens  are not really catered for in Government expenditure.

The real imbeciles are the corrupt idiots that is being  used to destroy nation states and the poor economic conditions of people will deteriorate further,   You will never get a real report from the nwws media used for braiwashing of people like yourself.    I read widely and picked up info from both the liberal media that whitewash deficiencies - but occaqsionally somehing does slip fthrough the net - like  report on slave labor of children in the US A that appeared in the New  York Times.

So dream on - play the fiddle like Nero di by fable a much later fable alleged.   I don't know what imbeciles like you play - but whatsoever it is it must not require no thinking abilities.

Once again Russia Bot Clever finds a way to support the cause of the aggressor. Of course sanctions are and other economic penalties are a price to be paid. But lots of wealthy Russians are a lot less wealthy as a result of the Ukraine travesty. Putin apparently is beefing up his security, for good reason.

No. Lots of wealthy Russians understood that relying on the USD means they could not get as rich as they want to be.

The US tendency to apply extraterritorial punishment has spooked many rich peeps around the world.

They understood that owning USDs mean owning nothing, anytime the US may revoke their perception of wealth.

It is happening in Russia, the middle East, south America.

Getting richer through trade means shady deals. The US favour shady deals over other shady deals.

The russian wealth, the chinese wealth, the middle east wealth, the south american wealth has much less pull over the US government than other wealths have, meaning their shady deals are going to be pinpointed by the US while the US protect US friendly shady deals.

Putin represents big interests.

Where did I support Russia in this threat.    You, cannot deny anything I wrote above about the issue of sanctions and the idiotic claim that sanction work.   It does not work - end of story.   What I wrote is factual and the  sanctions is a joke with 80/% of the world countries ignoring it.   Not oly not ignoring it.- they do undermie it by backroom deals to keep Russian goods flowing  to countries supposedly boycotting Russin produce.

Then we have birdbrain idiot  SB claiming that  food shortages are caused by the Russians occupying wheatlands in Eastern Ukraine.    Birdbrain does not realize that Russia produce four times more wheat than Ukraine does.   Ukraine export their wheat through Poland and that ahs been the case since the war started.   The Polish farmers claimed that it si un dermining them since the Ukraine wheat supply is exported through Poland at a much lower rate taan they can produce wheat  and part of it is sold in Poland.

You cannot deny anything  I wrote about the sanctions issue - it is all factual - and even in the USA  some media  coverage  slip through the censor net.   The story about the slave-labor conditions of children smuggled in from countries by the Mexican cartels and working as slaves in Michigan factories came from the New York Times.

The media you believe in write only positive garbage to protect the  image of your corrupt hero President - so how believable ae they?
