Th e company US Steel is in serious trouble financially and the Industry is in decline wit Steel workers are under threat of losing thir jobs.   SO an allied county like Japan has a coapny called Nippon Steel offered to buy US Steel and investing expansion of the steel industry in the USA and wanted to buy US Steel.

But I do not believe hee is bribes involved in this case so Biden bna the sale.   The qquestion is why ban such an investment by an allied country in investing in the SA with the aim at growth of the Industy in the USA.   If it was a Chinese comapny pepared to bribe the Bidens the sale would have gone through - but Japan is an ally of the USA so stop the sale.

Hope Trump will stop the BS and allow for the benifit of the Steelworkers for the sale to go through,   It will allow for huge investments in te USA to ensure growth of the USA steel idnustry.

I agree with you on this merger…..US Steel would only benefit from this alliance and Japan is our most important  ally in Asia. Unfortunately Trump is also opposed to the deal.

Mozart

I canno remember where I saw the Biden decision  and  in the article there was no indication that  Trump is not opposed to the deal.    The fact is that the decision by Biden is likely to be reviewed by Trump in three weeks time/

If you have info on the Trump approach please supply your  source.

Bozo will need permission from President Musk before he's allowed to have an opinion on this.

This from US Trade magazine:

However, the merger became a significant issue for Democrats and Republicans in November's US presidential election, as Pennsylvania, where US Steel is headquartered, was a critical swing state.

In an attempt to protect American jobs, the United Steelworkers union fiercely opposed the transaction.

This from the Associated Press:

‘Updated 5:55 PM EST, December 3, 2024Share

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump is underscoring his intention to block the purchase of U.S. Steel by Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel Corp., and he’s pledging to use tax incentives and tariffs to strengthen the iconic American steelmaker.

Trump had vowed early in the presidential campaign that he would “instantaneously” block the deal, and he reiterated that sentiment in a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday night.‘
