A light hearted look. I think contact with alien intelligences hinges on light travel. Ten thousand years to the nearest star based on current technology is just too long ….can we even lift the resources required to sustain a crew and its progeny for 10000 years.

So is Light Speed possible for living creatures?

Mozart

I think that the present civilization  will come to a  dead stop when the inevitable next ice age hit the world leaving only a small area around the equator  habitable.   All the inventions will be wiped out and the remaining people will return to primitive living conditions for about 10 thousand years and then will start a rebirth of expansion and gradual development into  a new civilization - which initself will take thousands of years to acheve.

There is no chance that earthlings will ever be able to explore the universe,    .
