Dozens of people were killed and around 100 injured Friday in a Russian rocket attack on the Kramatorsk train station, one of the easternmost stations still operating in Ukraine, Ukrainian officials said. The station was being used to evacuate civilians from eastern Ukraine's Donbas region. At least five children were killed in the attack, according to the local governor.

Around 4,000 people, mostly women and children, were at the train station at the time of the attack, the mayor of Kramatorsk said. Graphic images shared on social media appeared to show a number of casualties in civilian clothing. At least 52 people were killed, Ukrainian authorities said, according to the Associated Press.

"This is a deliberate strike on the passenger infrastructure of the railway and the residents of Kramatorsk," the head of the country's national railway, Alexander Kamyshin, wrote on social media.

I don’t get it. What benefit is there to carrying out an attack like that? Makes zero sense, particularly not in a war where one is behind the optics battle by seven laps. Unless it was a mistake, the product of an order by a crazy person or some other reason that we don’t know the facts of, it just makes no sense. “Shall we bomb the train station containing mostly women and children?” “Yes, do it NOW please.” Are the Russians really that evil?

ButtPlug, as usual you are on the fence and will not commit to an opinion one way or the other.

Why have civilian places been destroyed in past wars? Fear and intimidation for the defending leaders. Putin is like Hitler, He will not stop with one country, and is bound to attack more Eastern European countries.

Plum I’m guessing there is huge pressure in the Russian military right now. From a feared opponent 6 weeks ago they are now fodder for all sorts of jokes. Putin must be seething.

How this translates through all the layers down to the captain in the field is anybody’s guess. And it can happen to any army, witness the US in Vietnam.

This attack could be a missile gone wrong, a junior officer misinterpreting his orders….or the Russians deciding to play hardball in the East.

But the decisions that have hampered safe passage to escaping civilians are very conscious decisions and the Russians are culpable there. And as you point out modern warfare is on the world’s TVs every night. Russia was foolish to start this war and compounded that by looking incompetent.

The most interesting thing from a tactical perspective is the destruction of Russian tanks….with missiles tilting the playing field in favor of the defender vs the aggressor.

The Javelin is a thorn in the side of Russian tanks.

Indeed, Moz I can sympathise with Russia on many of the grounds that lead to the invasion but not the invasion itself. It’s also becoming impossible to think what a Russian win looks like. Would Putin and his supporters be happy to save some face in a peace deal where they manage to wrestle a piece of Ukrainian territory back to Russia? I have a feeling that they want to dictate terms and aren’t really up for negotiation. And/Or how long does this go on for until Putin loses enough support for him to be removed? Such a removal, in my opinion, being the best way for the most Russians to save face. Perhaps, once the dust settles, the way Russia handles this, in a post-war and post-Putin Federation, they may see greater acceptance into the proverbial fold. It would make sense that, after everything, a more “west thinking” leader is appointed. I’m just glad that i’m not a Russian person trying to make heads or tails of this at the moment. It’s probably in equal parts terrifying and confusing.

Tochka.U missiles were discontinued by Russian military 3-4 years ago. Their ballistic missiles used by Russian military in Ukraine are Iskander only.

Serial number on spent casing shows without shadow of doubt too was from Ukrainian stock.

Extreme bias and ignorance and yes Plum you are right, no sense and or sentiment of targeting their own evacuees leaving Kraimarosk station for Russian border.

Those perpetrators misconstruing evidence are just as guilty as those that fire at such deliberate targets.

Having no sense of fairness, honesty or justice is a ghastly sickness in society...it seems to be prevalent and infectious by some here too, sadly.Be patient and wait, only fools believe what they want to believe. The hatred and deliberate propaganda to sully Russian people is just as filthy as war crimes are.

Case closed.

Is SubstantialFool actually claiming that Ukraine bombed their own railway station and killed their own people...

An dishonest person will lie to themselves and bend facts to support their beliefs. An honest person will revaluate their opinion based on the data. This is why these simpletons fear science.

Dumb Mike, Beeno and this plodder support Russia because it is more religious than the West.
If Hell actually exists, Putins supporters will join their master to bask in the flames with Lucifer..

Kraimarosk is in Donetsk Peoples Republic...most are Russian speaking...read Minsk and Minsk 2 agreements. It is supposed to be self governing.

People commenting here stupid beyond belief without the slightest clue of the history running up to the operation.

Actually not worth engaging commenters like this. Got only one intention to annoy and are as useful just as a pop up is whilst streaming a rugby game or movie.
