My guess is this government department can easily be cut to 7545 employees without reducing the quality of anything. Drain the swamp.

Amazed that it requires so many employees to cause the havoc that they have and do cause.
Perhaps DT should transfer 50% of those folks to the military "active forces" along the border to handle the screw up that they caused.
25% to ICE and Police force across the country and fire all the top brass except the Sec. of State.
Any staff who refuse to take up the offer to be given the boot.

That is the exact problem in all public services all over the world. Lots of those are political appointments with very little capacity. Many years ago I wrote a report about public servants and indicated that Public Servants all over the world are the same. Most are there to just fill a chair and do the minimum they can do. Even cause obstruction to get things done..
That was why I have always been convinced - the more socialist the country is the bigger the incompetence and real disaster in administration is.
Even though I was a public servant my whole career long - I was never a real Public Servant and was put on pension at the age of 42 when I was already an Under-Secretary - the third highest rank in Government Service in SA at that stage - and would not accept dishonesty by politicians. I then went to work for a local authority where I had a bigger say in governance and it became the fastest growing area in SA. The Municipality refused to let me go and I worked full time until I was 70 years old - way past the normal retirement age of public servants in SA,
After that experience in government service I have learnt one thing - forget about running anything efficiently through Government service.
By the way is the State Department that big because they have not yet discovered that the Soviet Union is not in existence anymore and the Communist not in charge in Russia?
Another great way to make further cost savings is to close all Embassy and Consulate offices etc in Africa, Muslim countries and the far East.
They do zip for the USA but provide US $'s in aid (which is stolen), and visas and immigration for local friends and their family members and the highest bidders at the countries that they are posted to.
In addition the department is infested with Demorats as are all government departments stacked during Obama's terms as chief destroyer.
