….this paper the American equivalent of the Guardian is about to be gutted.

The Washington Post has announced it is laying off one-third of its work force, sharply scaling back the paper's coverage of sports and foreign news.

The cuts, announced on Wednesday, will impact employees across departments with roles in the newsroom's sports, local and foreign sections hit particularly hard.

It marks the latest upheaval for the leading US newspaper, which is owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.

Executive editor Matt Murray said the cuts would bring "stability". But the announcement was met with condemnation from the paper's employees and some former leaders, one of whom described it as among the "darkest days in the history of" the storied newspaper.

……….

I guess just attacking Trump every day wasn’t enough.

Love to see it.

Journalism is supposed to be reporting facts.

These guys need to be careful because AI could easily step into the void.

At this point, it's actually safer to create your own News GPT, with commands like;

Report only what is confirmed

Do not take a political stance

Do not repeat opinions or treat them as fact.

Quote experts for context only.

Answer only what I am asking

Point out obvious lies or errors in other reporting on the matter

And then ask questions like;

Tell me what is happening with the Iran/US situation.

Journalism is supposed to be reporting facts.

No it's not, how naive and ignorant can you be after I've repeatedly stated that boring doesn't sell, controversy does.......facts are boring and gets in the way of controversy. Controversy is the lifeblood of a Rag.

Get it now?(sigh)

This internet likes and clicks journalism has only served to drive and ever widening wedge between people.

There is a reason there is so much hate in the world right now. Previously one could have interesting political debates at social events. These days its a no go because the almost instantly turn into flaming rows. We're all worse off for it.

I'm doing what I can to remove myself from the equation.

It's not easy because we all have biases but at least trying to begin from fact is respectable start.

Controversy is the lifeblood of a Rag

Hysteria I can honestly say I can’t think of one thing you have said that struck me as insightful or memorable. So when you say ‘after I’ve repeatedly stated’ it matters not. Say it once, say it a thousand times it’s lost in the ether.

Or it is losing credibility as an independent news source with the Bozos Oligarch doctoring editorial policy to fit his narrative. Did not realise that Sports Newsroom was talking about Trump

I get the NY Times…..today the first page of their internet edition has 5 negative articles on Trump. And it’s a relatively light Trump day. Absolute obsession. Obviously reflecting the views of an unhinged readership.

"Obviously reflecting the views of an unhinged readership."

You nearly grasped it, Moffie.

Here, let me fix that for you . . .

"Obviously reflecting the views of an unhinged leadership."

There you go. Bit early in your day to be on the pink gins already, isn't it?

No Vaccine, sadly no. The NY Times does not reflect the views of the current leader, it reflects the views of its ’unhinged readership’. There old toppie, have a Marie biscuit and a nice glass of warm milk. It will all seem better.

How do you go from being a respectable & proud veteran of the once great GOP to becoming an avid supporter of this batshit political reinvention & creation of this absurd authoritarian fascist regime ?

Ou Bob, I don’t know what Vance said...I tried to watch the vid, but I don't have the patience to wade through that slanted BS...what I can tell you is that I don't like Vance much and would have preferred Rubio as VP.

The real fact is tjhat the print media has been battling to stay pertinent. It started off with having to compete with elevisionnews services but ultimatey woth the internet news platforms,

The real choice the media face is whether to be credible and reliabe news distributin or whether to support shock and herefore loss of aacuracy, news After years of declnming readership becaise of media sensationalism the ownership started to change and that changed the approch he owners, It happened i the cas of the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times already and the reactio naries amongst th stagg structure has been fired,

The televidion news media showed the same problem. All of the nedia like ABC and CNN, in the USA are showing sensational news distriburion beccame the thal show of the ultra=left politcal news distibution. At the height of the Rusian Hoax stories for example CNN had 3 200 000 viewers - it s now down to 900 000 viewers. and is in major financial trouble, A drop in media and television trouble goes hand-in-hand with an adverticement vlue nd that remins a mjaopr problem.

The choice is whetherto concentrte on real news distribytion and whethe to sp[read hate propaganda for media outlets to be used to maintain financial viability.
