Nothing...it's a real damper at best or a frightful sign of complete economic collapse at worse.

Someone the other day said it is rather like being on the Titanic with huge holes on the side and no hope of rescue and the ship is poised to it's doom with too few life boats.

Well Eskom is doomed and it's got the same chance of survival as the Titanic which is zero.

The only life boats are privatisation and getting dynamic businessmen professionals to rescue the company and to trim the staff by at least 50%...most of them are parasites anyway...I read a report sometime saying Eskom has overloaded it's working contingent by 4 times and the company could run on a quarter of what it now has if they were efficient and productive.

We all know that this is not going to happen because we have a weak vacillating fence-sitter of a president that cannot lead and has no balls to take the initiative. He has deceived and lied to us several times and is a fool that is led by his party...the party rules him...not he the party.

We are reaching a point of no return.

It's very depressing.

Seb

My impression was that the Government - afraid of its own members. the Communists, the Trde Unions  and the EFF wanted to introduce privatization by stealth, but I am afraid the time for that has run out.   I think the Government should immediately released a statement to the effect that -

*    Municipalities and major business businesses can construct their own power plants and sell  excess supplies for use in the Eskom grid;

*    Advertise for the sale of older power plants which the private sector can then upgrade and feed electricity to the Eskom grid at an agreed price; and

*    Enhance the granting of licenses for construction of wind and solar electricity and feeding of that into the Eskom Power grid,

The idea of the previous Government was that Eskom would be un as a business and until about 2001 Eskom was regarded as a top structure of that nature in the World,   Then the real Socialists took over and began usage of Eskom -

*    as a vehicle to create employment for mostly relatives and pals;

*    got rid of the honest and experienced White staff and replace them with cronies -often enough without the required qualifications and experience; and

*    under Zuma turned Eskom into a looting machine of massive proportions.

That was a recipe for disaster and the bottom fell out.  There is nothing that can save Eskom now.     Get rid of the Monster before it bankrupts SA totally.

FUCK SOCIALISM

-  it is a deadly disease and an abomination.

Seb, don't you have a generator?

Not that laodshedding isn't the shittest thing on the planet, because it certainly is.

I've been using a 2,7 KW Gennie and it runs the entire house on very little fuel.

Probably about R300 for 35 hours of non-stop use.

On a funny note, we have rat issues in one of our outbuildings. I tried everything to get rid of em, including some pretty out their rat traps. I hate poisoning them. They're small but intelligent little creatures and even though they're pests, the idea of something suffering in pain for days on end doesn't sit well with me.

Then I got the idea to run the generator in that building with the windows and doors closed.

I can safely say that my present regime of extermination by CO poisoning is on par with accepted humane laboratory methods

Seb, for any government run organisation to get into R450 billion worth of debt...... really does take some doing.  Some have now admitted that the infrastructure was not fully maintained or serviced according to the stipulated guidelines, and now we are paying the price...….they also did not want to take the "white man's help"...…. some people were just too proud, and racist..... and some still are

One can only imagine the complete lack of direction that it took all these different people, over so many years ..... to achieve this......yet they still got their bonuses most of the time..... which ran into the multi millions...…..and now NERSA have to constantly fight for us to get reasonable rates because Eskom want ridiculous yearly increases to try and pull back their lost profits..... it's a fucking joke....

Now SAA is on bended knees..... Transnet is a bloody joke...….at what point does it become clear that we are facing the precipice...….we genuinely are

"I hate poisoning them. They're small but intelligent little creatures and even though they're pests, the idea of something suffering in pain for days on end doesn't sit well with me"

Plum, despite our recent differences, I had to respond after reading this from you, just to mention something to you and anyone else who cares for animals.

Not only was it cool to not let the rats suffer, but what I also specifically mention to people a lot about poisoning rats, is something that nobody really thinks about, and I don't blame them at all.... they are just non the wiser

Someone poisons the rats.... the rats run away to find a water source, or they die out in the open somewhere, in the most horrible way..... Hawks and Owls and other species also then feed on the dead rats, and unknowingly they go back to the nest and feed that same poisoned meat to their young chicks..... so ultimately mom dies...... dad dies, and all the chicks die.....

Just pointing out that doing it your way is not only the decent way to do it, if ever that is possible to do.....but you have also very possibly saved another species from harm or death...and not wiped out an entire owl or hawk family.....because it happens incredibly often… and people are completely oblivious to nature's ripple effect of Rattex or other poisons

DA,

I have always used non-secondary poising chemicals.

The problem with those is that it takes incredibly long, weeks, to kill the rats.

So whether it's fast or slow poison, neither is cool. Animals walking around with blood coming out of the ears, eyes and nose while their insides turn to mush, is not something I want any part of. E specially not animals that have been shown to be as or more intelligent than dogs.

FYI, Owls, dogs and gennits are at the biggest risk of secondary poisoning, in my area.

Our neighbour used poison on moles in their garden. We exchanged words, she doesn't do it any more.

Nice to hear Plum

I once worked closely with a guy who rehabilitated Owls, and it was sickening to see how many owls died from secondary rat poison, but as I said, people are oblivious to what long lasting damage it does, to poison rats...… it moves down the whole food chain.

The more people that are made  aware of what it actually does in the long term, the more it might help overall, hence why I responded to what you posted, because I feel strongly about it

Well Plum I don't like generators because they belch out diesel fumes...it's bad enough as it is...our neighbours generator sends fumes across to us 200 metres away and we have to close all windows and doors....we are semi rural/country. We have generators on the farm but that's different because it's vast space and there are usually gusty winds that blow it away...in fact you never smell it there and my missus is allergic to diesel fumes even though she comes from one of biggest cities in the world.

Well Plum if it gets as bad as Mike has experienced he's had 2 that lasted over 6 hours I think he said...I would not be able to tolerate that, 2 hours is bad enough especially at times I need power most...then I might consider petrol.

Although petrol costs less than diesel, the diesel generator is cost effective and fuel efficient, has lower cost ownership, lasts longer as it takes longer to depreciate in value...they don't have to work so hard as petrol for the same output. The engine parts subsequently have less stress and it's self-lubricating and fuel delivery last longer.

It doesn't need an ignition system and can operate under higher loads for a long period.

Also we have grass fires often in winter and carrying lots of petrol near dwelling is a bit risky when grass sparks blow in the air and petrol being more volatile.

But yes I'll be forced to get either if things get any worst...don't have a choice.

I have a 6.5KVA diesel generator which pretty much powers anything you ever need at home

I easily took between 3 - 6 months to investigate and  decide on which option to take, with petrol or diesel and for the exact same reasons that Seb mentioned above, I went with diesel....

Just remember to get a generator where you will actually use a lot of the power output that it can offer you, because if you constantly use far less than it's peak output performance, you can glaze the cylinders and damage your generator and use excessive oil.....so under utilising the generator's power, actually causes more damage in the long run

Regarding private generators to keep you in 2020 and not 1920 my brother-in-law has a smallholding just outside JHB which had both a generator and a solar to keep them operational during  BLACKOUTS.

These power options more than met their needs as far as electrical supplies are concerned but the operative word is "HAD".

Yep, like everything in RSA these days these units have unfortunately found other homes.

Now they are back into the BLACKOUT way of life.

Not paying heed to good advice and doing what has to be done to stay safe unfortunately has consequences.

Farmers all use diesel generators...for the reasons mentioned above...petrol engines would not last and overheat from farming use and farming in KZN has grass fires aplenty in winter, fire breaks etc. Petrol generators are not suited and would not last. My uncle once tried one and scrapped it eventually when it ceased up.

So it looks like a diesel generator it will have to be and the other consideration is that I want to move somewhere else where life is a bit more safer and pleasanter.

Living in KZN now is literally hell on earth...taxi's galore, car hijackings (it happened to me 3 years ago)..despite the property having security system and gate...car window smashed , CD and radio ripped ripped out and battery stolen. The theft break-in happened just a week ago.

Next thing will our lives. I'm too, am getting old and cannot take this shit anymore and if confronted will shoot the crap out of them and dump their bodies...no one can live like this, it's getting stressful and one just wants peace. I don't trust the police at all and I'm convinced our lot are criminals themselves. No culprits ever get caught and brought to book anyway...it's become a waste of time to call them and prefer not too but unfortunately insurance claims need this.

It's a bloody catch 22 system away and I'm tired of all window dressing nonsense that's spewed out by deluded positive talking liberal-minded people who are fools and never learn.

The truth is that the ANC in majority are criminals and thieves themselves and racialists par excellence that hate us whites, coloureds, asians and other africans from other countries. The worst hypocrites of all...a thousand times worse than even the most die-hard Broederbond members of old...far, far worse than the HNP, at least they left you alone and wanted a separate life and when I now think of it...can't really blame them.

I was anti- apartheid all my life and still am but I can realise why it was created from other side. Two wrongs never make a right but there should have been some sort of compromise between the 2 extremities but I guess it was on the cards from the beginning with misrepresented hidden agendas.

Qualified franchise is what Helen Suzman wanted...it was the answer in theory but in practice it was too honest and sophisticated for Africa, The majority would have never understood it anyway.

These bastards invade you, steal your possessions if your're lucky but murder and maim innocents at will without any fear.

If ever a country needed the death penalty it's this savage country...it is a deterrent.

But it's too late now. We just have to do our best and trust in Divine intervention but I think God has given this country up to it's own sins (both black and white). That's our only hope..

I found the solution 5 years ago.   Get out of KZN - it is not worthwhile.  I moved to Riversdale and found a peaceful and livable environment.

Homes are not all that expensive - you can still buy a very nice home for between R1,5 and R1,7 million  and sectional title units for circa R1 million and even less,.   Quality meat, fruit and vegetables are cheaper.

The Municipal services are very good as well,

The place is safer and very peaceful,   Would not go back to KZN for any money in the world,

I would like to ask a legit question

Why have all the towns that have been taken over by black people, been absolutely destroyed.....

There are facts to back this up.... it is not a generalised statement

Why have these same towns become so undesirable or unsafe or unfit to live in, that most white folks move out

Most of these towns have been totally destroyed and looted.....the graveyards have been completely destroyed, they are all unkept and overgrown.... the sewerage works is non existent, the municipality is broke....the streets are disgustingly dirty......the sidewalks have grass that is a meter high...….lawlessness prevails....

There is always the one common denominator to towns that have been perfectly fine for decades, but have been destroyed in little to no time, when blacks take over... and it's the blacks....

There is just no way to get away from that fact

There ae basic reasons why the bottom in municipalities fell out.  I will refer to the one I worked for.   By 2012 there were only 3 Whites left in the administration of the town and all three held senior positions.  I was already 70 years old and the other senior guy was 68.   The other Mayors before the one who \assumed office in 2011 were responsible people - but the one appointed at the time was a Zumanoid - more drunk than sober,.

When we left the Municipality they had a reserve find of R500 million to do upgrading of infrastructure and street and electricity infrastructure in particular.   5 years later the R500 million was gone without any projects being completed or even done.   The hell hole of corruption and maladministration took care of that.

Potholes became the norm in streets.   The Municipal sewerage plant in the northern part of the Municipality let more shot than water into the stream and it smelled to high heaven.   Even the Blacks moaned about the conditions under which they lived  and there were constant protest meetings.   One of the Municipal Managers were killed by a rented assassin by the taxi association.

Not a nice picture at all.   What happened in that Municipality is happening country-wide, with much less problems in the Western Cape,

It defies any logic......and it's not racist to state this..... it is a fact of life.....

Woke up to no power this morning. Load shedding yesterday and power off since 01:00 last night with City-Power simply saying that there is no ETA for restoration.

I am counting the fucking days until I leave this absolute shithole of a country.

DA, blacks breed like bunnies because as a a group, and on an individual basis, their ability to plan ahead was never a selective pressure in Africa.

Much different to our ancestors that had to plan ahead to survive long cold winters. If you could not provision and plan in Europe, you would die, and so would your kids. Simple as that.

In Africa, you needed to live near a water source, have an animal skin to keep you warm and be able to hunt small game. Basically achieve caveman status and you're good.

Selecting for planning drives IQ up.

Hence the large discrepancy between the two racial group's IQs.

Lol, Blob..... the numbers were increasing long before load shedding started, but I get your drift

Increase your numbers, have 10 kids, and then blame the white man because you cannot clothe them or feed them..... then hand over the land to them, so that they now have somewhere to live, and that once productive land, now goes for a ball of fucking shit.... barren and completely unproductive..... with shacks on the land..... it makes me sick to my stomach

Like that one minister who was gifted the one farm, and when it was inspected a few months later, she had left all of her farm animals to die a horrible death, with no water or food..... just disgusting

How long is the white man "supposed" to feel responsible for all that is wrong with what happens to the blacks...… I certainly don't, and I never will

Stop breeding like flies, get off your fucking backside, motivate yourself to do well, and stop blaming everyone else for your failures in life.....take one step back and 2 forward..... life ain't a fucking free ride

Plum, w e are currently sitting with a population of about 57 million people

The prediction for that same number by 2040 is 65 million people....and 88.5 million people by 2050...…….

As I said earlier, from Durban, down the Transkei coast towards East London.... towards George...…towards the Cape.... the tide is moving..... albeit slowly...….and it just leaves destruction behind.....in every single town..... not one town has escaped the black tide of death.....and it is so obvious to see.....

In 1911 the population breakdown was

Blacks 67%

Whites 21%

Coloured 9%

Asian 3%

In 2004, that same breakdown was

Blacks 79%

Whites 10%

Coloured 9%

Asian 2%

In 2011, that same breakdown was

Blacks 76.4%

Whites 9.1%

Coloured 8.9%

Asian 2.5%

We are watching the very slow death of a beautiful country

Poor Port Alfred

They have been without water for over a week...… every single resident..... because the infrastructure has collapsed due to non-maintenance and upkeep... and there is no quick fix coming soon, people are relying on water tankers

Imagine having to go through that...… you can't even use the toilet at home at some point.... and most schools have now already stopped toilets from being utilised .....

And the real problem, is that this was identified many years ago.... but nobody listened.

Someone I know there said the water has been off for nearly 2 weeks

This is descending into 5th world country levels

The experts, and some ex employees from Eskom, are also saying that there is absolutely no way at all that load shedding will cease before the minimum ….year 2025

They say the damage and maintenance that is needed is just far too extensive..... so at a absolute minimum, it could maybe be done by mid 2025

Buckle up for a very long and shitty ride

Ja.

When complaining about lack of service, theft, corruption and the rest of the long list other negative outputs of black run governments, you are somehow also by default racist.

It's such utter bullshit. Most complaints about the black man are in fact complaints about the output of black societies. The left likes to leave this line as blurred as possible.

The vast majority of blacks that i know are very good people. That's never in question.

However, every culture on earth has its pros and cons but seemingly only the cons at one end are up for discussion. Nonsensically, that is the same side which shows the most advancement...by lightyears.

On the other hand, Africa and most African states are far and away the worst places on earth. People are still chopping off kid's hands so that they can't vote. Women are still being circumsized. What kind of nation does one build on those foundations?

Heaven fucking fobid one critisizes them or a president calls their countries shitholes.

May we ask nations which have been liberated for approaching a century,  or have never been colonies at all, "Hey'ah, you guys gonna get your shit together at some point? Can we stop with the child soldiers at some point?"

One of the excusesis is that Africa cannot operate under Western systems.

Great. We'll, not so great, if yo don't have a decent system of your own to fall back on.

Asian nations achieved similar and more than what Europe did as their societes tracked each other through history to the present day. They had the written word and cultures that focused on maximising forward planning through farming and resource gathering. This created a surplus and lead to refinement of culture. Ultimately Sony, Samsung...you get the picture.

That's why most of Asia, India and Srilanka included, are capable, ready to deal with and adapt western culture where necessary while progreesing their modern sociteis. In many respects they are actually leading the way.

Regardless of what happens to them, these nations have well developed roots to fall back on. All of them are building and most have adapted AND contributed well to the post idustrial revolution world.

Africa just does not have that. None of it. Hunter gatherers are predisposed to filling their pockets and moving on. The faster you can fill your pockets and the quicker you can move on the better a hunter gatherer you are.

For me, it really is that simple. You don't remove tens of thousands of years of evolutionary bias towards one succesful system in the space of 25 years.

Does that make them bad people? No. In fact, in many ways, it makes them better people.

The question i have is a very basic one.

How does one deal with one's hunter gather roots in a world that is evolving ever more rapidly around you? A world that continues to punish you more and more severely for not looking ahead.

I don't read many "Struggle" books, so i dont know if this specific topic features somewhere in the musings of the black power ideology. I hope it does.

...because ultimately, if they learn to provision and plan consistently, that'll bring the dignity and self-respect whi ch renders racism null nad void.

The only two positives that I can see about living in RSA.

Firstly you wake up and secondly sunshine.

The first one being debatable, unfortunately.

When I was a young man our neighbour was a gentleman named, Jimmy Hamilton.

I believe he was a SA soccer player and cricketer who had two saying which he used often with a smile and it goes like this:

``You cannot fart against thunder`` and ``You cannot row uphill``

That said it is a sad and sorry situation for all people who are not of BLACK AFRICAN decent.

Yet the liberals stated ALAWAYS that it was the scourge of racism and predujdice ad naseum. These people who inhabitated these areas then went on to destry the homes and stores which once were establisehed businese etc and are now tore down or burned out, this is the legacy of the black man destroy and move on. Also I have noticed the jealousy of these people towards their own if they are successfull in some venue of business or education. I have had calls to black schools were a beaten student was accussed of acting white if he showed promise or was just A SMART KID. These people are unbeleivable. And they are African to the core, i have spoke to a few lay religious men who went to Africa with stars in eyes to preach to locals and came back with stories of murderous rampage ON A DAILY basis where they thought they had befriended a local only to be robbed by same individual, subject stated they are born thieves.
