If "a" scientist says XYZ, but the other 99.9% of scientists say the opposite, then, why is the 0.01% more credible than the 99.9%?
If you use a specialist to give your beliefs credibility, you must acknowledge what other specialists in the same field say - especially what consensus is.
Consensus does not prove fact, but it is far more statistically reliable than the outlier.
