Because they don't want want to have the pay the cost in human lives, pay the economic cost or potentially risk nuclear war. None of the European countries want to go it alone and none wants to take the lead in advocating for direct intervention.

While Europe wants Ukraine to win, it doesn't want to get directly involved in the fighting, nor is it willing to sacrifice its economy sufficiently in order to ensure a Ukrainian victory.

Instead its trying to give Ukraine what it needs to avoid defeat while preserving its own economy and force the Russian's through exhaustion be it militarily or economic to come to the negotiation table and offer terms Ukraine can accept and that won't jeopardise Ukraine's long term survivability and security and that of Europe's.

Europe would also like to keep the US onside because in the event of a direct conflict with Russia having US in its corner, even just its airpower would massively reduced European casualties.

But lets just be clear on one thing, in the event of a direct conventional war between Europe and Russia where both sides fully mobilize and the US says it's staying completely on the side lines and providing no support to Europe (you can remove Russian friendly European states like Hungary and Slovakia from Europe's side but you can could add in Europe being supported by Western aligned countries like Canada and maybe Australia). If the war remained a strictly conventional fight, its not even close, Russia would be completely overmatched by a side that that would have and overwhelming numerical and economic advantage as well as distinct technical advantage. Russia who have captured 70,000km of Ukraine in almost 4 years of conflict would be facing up against a hostile block 6.3 million km in size with an economy around 10 times it size and 4 times its population. This after its professional army that originally entered Ukraine has already been destroyed, replaced by an army of much lower standard and the majority of its Soviet stock piles having already been depleted, Yes it would have a drone advantage for a few months but Europe's production would very quickly surpass it. Yes Russian could inflict thousands of casualties but it would suffer far worse.

And yes if its a nuclear war Russia could lay waste to Europe, but Britain and France have more than enough nukes to render the same back on to Russia.

Ukraine concentated their armies in certain cities - Mariopol, Bakmut and Avdika were just three of those, Provorks were one of those - and that one fell over he last week. Now further rereat is on the cards - the Ukraine Army has to fortify another center to defend. Not easy since according to repot the Ukraine lost 500 000 troops in being killed - injured as POW's and a whole youn ger generation fled to other countries to avoid army service,

Zelenskyy has a problem - the U SA refuse to gice him cash money - but provide armaments only. Too much of the cash provided vanished into th in air and was not sued for t he purpose it was provided, The situation is so bad that services are collapsing. Despite the fact that NATO - and especailly the USA privde armaments - but no cash to be sued by the Kiev regime - the fact is that the country is weakened on a virtually adaily basis. In the eriod 2022 to 2024 the U SA funded the whole bud g et of the Ukraine Govrnment. In 2025 the USA limited assistance to armaments only - not cash - and that is why Governance in Ukraine is disintegrating.

There is no way the Zelenskyy Gvernment can survive becuase of corruption and the Government eneds real money from NA TO countries to survive and cash is not firthcoming anymre, The fact is the corrupt elements in Zelenskyy's Government can survive without his own invovlement clear as daylight. We will not know what was promised to Zelenskyy to keep him safe and allow him to keep his share of the loot.
