Again, this is not a religious thing. Happiness in societies largely revolve around socio-economic and cultural conditions. Finland, Denmark and Iceland can mostly be found at the top of global happiness indexes, yet they're still predominantly religious countries. What puts them there is safety, environment, education, jobs, earnings. Religion barely features, although religious freedom might in a small way.

Japan is probably one of the most non-christian countries in the world. I haven't been there so I can only comment on what I've heard and read and what statistics say, and it doesn't seem to go too badly over there. Crime especially is extremely low - how can it be that people who shun the good lord Jesus can keep their hands to themselves so well? Let the penny drop: it's not about reading The Bible or listening to a pastor's ramblings every Sunday. There are more important factors.
