Lots of "ifs" and "buts" in there...sounds like politicized jargon.

Of course it violated international law. Who needs to be told that assassinating another country's Minister of Defence is a violation of international law?

Poor innocent peace loving Soleimani. He has not even ever ordered any harm to anybody, least of all any Americans.

"that assassinating another country's Minister of Defence is a violation of international law?"

Munister if defence for Iran is interchangeable with Minister of Terrorism...Soleimani probably had more blood on his hands than Osama Bin Laden.

Same old story . . . the brainwashed Trumpanzees who had never heard the name Qassem Soleimani in their lives until he was assassinated all telling us what a bad person he was . . . because that's what Fox News told them.

OK...do enlighten us about the virtues of the man and the good work he was doing in Iraq and other countries while defending Iran.

"UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, however, backed the strike, describing the American action as self-defense."

This is weird - not worth any discussion.  The fact is that the UNI and its structures like the WHO is largely funded by the  USA - yet they are mouthpieces of the Chinese and some other reactionary States - always take a stance opposing the USA,   Not worth discussing,

The UN Human Rights Council has been a monumental disaster. Thankfully

@NikkiHaley

led the United States out of the Council back in 2018 as US Ambassador to the United Nations. An excellent move.

The UN Human Rights Council is an embarrassment:

53 countries at the UN HRC, led by Cuba, came out in support of China’s natl security law this week -- a law that has formed the basis of the communist regime’s latest crackdown on the people of Hong Kong.

This is reason enough for the USA to leave the UN and boot it out of NY"

I suppose this will justification for Trump and the US to leave the UN.
Biden will just press the undo button in 4 months time. Biden has already said the first thing he will do is rejoin WHO.
The US is currently banned from most countries as they have the worst infection rates. So if Trump wants to follow an isolationist policy, he has achieved this
The UN and WHO are not perfect, particularly because they are weak organisations. If they were stronger, they could stop being avoiding being politically correct - and call out countries who are in violation.
Trump has been trying to destroy Obamacare since he got into the job, Even now in the Corona era- Trump still wants to cancel it leaving millions of Americans with no health care- unless they show up at a hospital dying.

America is simply too powerful at the moment for there to be any consequences for them flouting international law.

The UN is far from perfect though and needs to be reformed. I'd start by getting rid of veto's that the 5 permanent security council members have.

On the 53 member states that came out in support of China's new security law for Hong Kong, you can a break down of who was in support of them and who was against them.

Stav

A UN reform should entail that no country not holding DEMOCRATIC elections verified by a independent observer agency should be allowed membership of the UN.  That would disqualify about 70% of the UN members,   At this stage the UN is a nice organization doing the dirty work for Dictators who  undermine Democracy through bribery and corruption - eg the leadership of the Democrats in the USA,

Of the 53 members who voted for the China resolution 48 members are enemies of democracy.

If you remove the veto-power the UN with their majority dictatorship cadres it will be another arm to undermine democracy in countries, who are still Democratic.

Exactly Mike. Mob rule and the end of Western Civilization...and the culmination of the NWO.

I wouldn't be against that. But after that veto's need to go. Otherwise nations with it will just use it when it suits their own interests and not the interests of the greater good.

The UN needs to include all countries to truly be a global organisation.

However, the UN should have tiers of membership status based on their conduct.
Countries that follow less of the conventions, should have lower levels of membership- and less influence voting.
Or the countries performing the best to UN guidelines (which are Western) get favourable trade deals.
The worst ones just get bad deals, like a lower discount.
Trade wars instead of real wars where the best members of the UN are rewarded and the worst are punished with less attractive deals.
The US should get some type of penalty like a fine by the UN.
The main goal of the UN should be to bring the working systems of some countries to others that are not doing as well through financial benefits such as favourable trading partner status.

There are too many dictators in the world and they always support each other,   Anyway - the USA is unlikely to leave the UN and to quote Biden is silly - he has been bribed by China and will do their bidding all the time.
