I am not sure that travel bans is the answer - especially not before the danger posed by the enw varint is borne in mind.    The present indications - confirmed by the WHO is that the symptoms of infection did not cause any real illness requiring hospitalization amongst positive tested individuals - it has more in common with flu than anything else.  

This was confirmed by the specialist who first identified the virus and looked at what actually happened to the infected  thus far.   The actions of  the UsA and other countries is just based on fear and not science.    In South Africa - where the variant was first identified - they ahd a number of people identified suffering from infection and that was the overall situation.

In SA where   rhe variant was first discovered - it was considered rom people from other countries in Africa visiting SA.   In the past the Government banned people from visiting other provinces - but that was not considered necessary in the case of the enw vriant - since although very infectious, the result of infection is minor.   The new variant is minor (eg non-existent) insofar as hospitalization is concerned.    Isolation for 14 days is all that is required.

I watch some news on Russia Today TV yesterday and the  panic reaction to the travel ban affected tens of thousands of people.    The situation was chaotic - with planes alread in the air ordered to return to SA and planes already loaded having to be unloaded.   People were allowed into the planes already tested and cleared of infection - so why the panic reaction in the USA and the UK?     Media hysteria is probably the cause .for unscientific  action.      

By the way there was another interesting discussion on the Woke issue in the western countries,    They were very critical of the leftist and authoritarian  approach and claim that it destroy culture and  civilization - as well is development in effected countries,    Russians are very proud of their historical background and even the  oppressive Communist Regime did not go into destruction of  historical buildings and monuments. from Tsarist times.   Building maintenance was neglected - but not destroyed.     In that respect present day Russians are rather conservative  in their approach and the woke (cancel) culture is condemned.    The imminent attack on Ukraine was also discussed and they claimed it is based on propaganda in the West and not fact.
