What an illogical question,   Apparently you believe Russians are sub-humans without a family life.   Sokolov would have a family and if he is dead there would have been confirmation from them and in the media.   What purpose would it serve to keep a dead man alive for the Russians?

From where did you, get a repo/rt on Russian Generals are "ofcten hiding away fcrom battlefdields.   If thaat wasz true they would have been fired long ago.    So pleaase confirm you source.

Mike thinks Russia is a normal country where the media isn't controlled by the Kremlin.

What purpose would it serve? Well it could serve to confuse the Ukrainian's as to how effective their missile strike and deny them a propaganda victory while possibly trying to keep it from their own troops so it doesn't affect their morale.

It would be really easy for Russia to debunk this. Have the guy comment on the strike in a video or even have him hold up today's newspaper. Video's with no dates that don't address the strike could of been made at any time or place.

Generals on the battlefield?

That would be few and far between in any army, sure it's been known for generals to visit the front lines time to time but normally they are miles from the front. It takes decades for a good general to learn his trade they don't fight on the front like your common soldier, care to let me know what country demands their generals to fight on the front lines along with their men?

The problem is that under Communism Russia and I found the people poor - but friendly and helpful,   The media ymo believe in paint a vey different picture of Russia and Hollywood do the same.   I do not believe the press is free in  Russia - but could find no example where the FBI and the WH  lied to the media and tell them what they may not publish like happrned in the USA  at present.

You explain the situation better than I could have done myself,    In ancient time the commanders were in the battle themsleves - but Napoleoin never was in the front line he was on a hill from which he could see what is happening in  battles and send order attack plans to ensure victory.

In modern times the generals are at command posts where they would see from satellite photos what the enemy does and change tstratergies where necessary.   Communication systems are nowadays much better than they were even in WW2.   The lower officers are nearer the battle and sometimes use arms themselves  crittical situations - but that also is rather rare.   They are near the front line from where they can co-ordinarete what is to be done locally during  battles.
