Den, as a result of that tweet the ANC and especially the EFF are gaining so much political mileage it is not even funny. They have just used it as another tool to illustrate how the West is anti-black and racist. It may have placed the issue on the world stage, but here in South Africa, it has just further strengthened the uneducated majority's view that they are victims and that the greedy white's and the West are just evil and against them. So unless the US and whoever else, plan on giving white South Africans some sort of asylum, it is probably best they keep quiet, because quite honestly, they are just making things worse for those of us still trying to get bye here. 
The key here is uneducated masses. They don't care about the actual problem in South Africa. The corruption of the black elite and the resultant failing economy. They are too simple and to filled with hate to see that that is why their lives never improved after the fall of apartheid. They only care about the new and general political narrative which is, everything is the white man's fault, and basically, he needs to pay for it. 
You see, they do harbor resentment towards white people, and if I am honest, rightly so, but what they don't understand is that the poor current state of affairs has basically nothing to do with white people, but that is irrelevant, because the EFF and ANC politicians have realised that pinning every ill faced by the country on whites is by far the easiest best political strategy ever. And believe me, they are milking it.
