So what can we expect to happen to Zuma and the Guptas.
Lets take Zuma first
Zuma has some very serious problems from a legal perspective. These alleged offences include:–
* The 18 charges involving a total of 783 payments for which he was to be charged before the charges were dropped in 2009. The Gautemng High Court and the Appeals Court has both rued that the charges be re-instated and the matter is now in the hands of Abrahams - Shawn the Sheep. However, the Gauteng High Court ruled that Shawn the Sheep is compromised and that the post is vacant because Zuma illegally got the services of the former NPA Head – and since the post is at present technically vacant. The Court consequently instructed Ramaphosa to appoint a new NPA Head. In his SONA speech Ramaphosa indicated that te matter would receive urget attention/ I assume that Shawn the Sheep can pack his bags and hope the Judicial Services Commission does not prohibit him to operate as a lawyer in future. Taking into account the above I think Zuma will face charges and is very likely to be found guilty and receive the prescribed 15 years jail sentence.
* It is very likely that Zuma will be charged after the State Capture Investigation has been finalized by Judge Zondo. The resultant charges potentially could involve High reason and a host of other charges.
Once found guilty Zuma can be pardoned by Ramaphosa – but such a pardon will not gp down well with the voters.
Two of his sons and some of his daughters may also be in trouble and in their cases there would be NO pardon.
The Guptas
The signs are that the Guptas has fled and are at present in Dubai . They may think they and their stolen money is safe there. However, there has been an extradition agreement finalized with the UAE and was awaiting Cabinet Approval. Under the Zuma Government such approval would never have been approved by Cabinet – but I expect the Cabinet approval for the Extradition Agreement would now be forthcoming.
In the meantime the Gupta activities in SA have largely been closed down. Amongst those are Shara computers which made major sponsorships to cricket franchises, Cricket SA and other franchises ill have to find sponsors to fill the vacuum.
Two mines belonging to the Guptas have not paid their workers as well as their creditors. It is likely that the Government will put the mines on the open market in an effort to recover their costs attached to illegality on the part of Transnet and Eskom/
If the Guptas is repatriated they are likely to face a list of charges stretching from here to Cape Town and will die in prison. The charges are likely to include High Treason and could result them to die in Jail in SA.
