I'm typing this towards the end of the punultimate stage of this year's Giro but today's result is a foregone conclusion and tomorrow's stage is pretty much a procession with an opportunity for the sprinters, but I have to say, Tadej Pogacar's victory in this year's Giro is the most dominant win I have seen in all my many years of watching the Grand Tours.

If someone had to ask me who the greatest sportsman is in the world today, I'd probably be torn between Max Verstappen and Novak Djokovic . . . but if Tadel Pogacar beats Jonas Vingegaard in a Tour de France when they are both fit and in-form, I'll call him not just the greatest sportsman today but one of the greatest of all time.

I have no problem numbering Zinedine Zidane among the greatest sportsmen of my lifetime.

An absolute legend of the game. A player - like Glenn Hoddle, Denis Bergkamp and Dimitar Berbatov - who seemed to play in slow motion and just had more time on the ball than anyone else.
