ROUND  2

Upper Half  of the Draw

1    Danill  Medvedev                vs           Pablo Andujar-Alba

7     Taylor Fritz                        vs           Yoshihito Nishioka

4     Rafael Nadal                       vs           Stefan Kozlov

Tommy Paul                              vs            Dusan Lajovic

Bottom Half  of the Draw

8     Pablo Carrero-Busta           vs            Marcos Giron

3     Stefanos Tsitsipas                vs          Jeffrey Wolf

6     Cameron  Norrie                 vs           John Isner

2     Alexander  Zverev               vs          Peter Gojowczyk

Both Matteo Berrettini and John Millman retired because of injury and did not complete their matches.    Ot looks like Berretini's injury is quite serious and he may be out of the nect three series,

Both Zverev and Tstsipas struggled in their Round 1 matches and one has to see how they go further.   Nadal was very lucky,   His first round opponent was supposed to be Opelka  - but the latter wotdrew at the last minute and his first round was a lucky loser from the qualifications round and his second round opponent is a qualifier,    His third Round opponent was supposed to be Berrettini - but the latter withdrew as a result of injury and now he is likely to face Tommy Paul.

QUARTERFINALS

Upper Half  of the Draw

1    Danill  Medvedev                vs           Yoshihito Nishioka

4     Rafael Nadal                       vs           Tommy Paul

Bottom Half  of the Draw

3     Stefanos Tsitsipas                vs          Marcos Giron

6     Cameron  Norrie                 vs           Peter Gojowczyk

The latest shock is the kicking out of  Alexander Zverev resulting in a walkover.   Apparenantly it is based on an alleged hitting out by Zverev on the umpire.  What actually happened was that Zverev hit nobody - but the  stellation on which the umpire sat.   Tsitsipas won - but he played a shocker as well.

WILL BE UPDATED AS RESULTS OF ROUND 2 COME IN TOMMORROW.

As expected  Nadal won the tournament and the guy did well in the first two months of the year and deserve congratulations  thus far this year,   There are two TPA 1000 tournaments coming up in March - one at Indian Wells and  the other in Miami and that would give Nadal an opportunity to shine.    In this regard it seems that Djokovic will not taking part in those two tournaments.

Further news on the two tournaments will be supplied over the next two weeks.   In the meantime there are Davis Cup elimination games played and Spain has to play.   Not sure whether Nadal would take part in those games and I hope Alcazar is playing for Spain.    .
