APT Rod Laver Cup 2022

On 2021 the European Team wpn the seriess with 14 points to 2 and it was nit even necessary to play the inal three matches in the series,    The tem only loss was a soubles game on day one of the series,   It was really a record year in the tournament and set a kevek hard to achieve in 2022.

So what is going to happen in 2022?   Nobody knows - but here is the teams:-

I did not know whether to laugh or cry when I saw the above team.    The form of Djokovic and Nadal is at best questionable - Federer already announced his retirement from all tennis -  Muaary has been off and on since his return from injury.

This team looks much stronger comparative to Team Europe.    The series will be televised but I think there wil be a few matches worth watching.

As for Nadal and Novak ... They should both win their matches easily.

I love the fact that the 4 best players in the last generation are together one last time.

My Money is on Red this time around.    There really is no chance that the two will win bearing in mind the fact that  Djokovic  was absent from tennis for nearly three months and Nadal was pathetic in the US Open.      

There are four matches today counting in total 8 points.    Three of those are single matches with  the following playing:-

20:00           -    Andy Murray               vs      Alex de Minaur

The double match comprises of the following players:-

Federer will only play in doubles. 

Berretini has been brought in to take his place in singles.

I think that will probably happen - but as far as I know it is against the rules for the tournament.  The alternate can only play if there is an injury to one of the players.

Unfortunately we have a four hour load shedding BS situation from 18:00 to 22:30 tonight and I will be unable to watch anything during that period.        

Incdentally Ruud beat Sock by winning the third set tie-breaker - not a very good performance against a lo ranked player.   So far the points count is 2-0 in favor of Team Europe.

The fact is you do not know the point system used.  Winners get 2 points for wins on day 1 - 3 points per win on day 2 and 4 points per win on day 3.

Despite all your personal nasty comments I am one person on site who made a careful study of things and that applies to rugby, cricket tennis and politics.   

On the case of the Rod Laver Cup - the world team coached by John McEnroe  has not won the trophy for years now and this is the first under time that the team coached by McRoe win.

I nearly choked when I saw Team Eutope7  Two of the 7 members only played one doubles game   Although they won the game. the team lost the series.   So why did I see it.   The Federer-Nadal game was a farewell match for Federer - question is was it a farewell match for Nadal as well?

Now for the rest -   

*    Berrettini thus far had a poor year and is struggling not to slip down in the rankings to above 20 -  maybe the result of injuries;

*    Ruud was lucky this year in the French Open and the Wimbledon Exhibition series, but he has not won a single tounament this year yet - good player but doubtful whether he can play better players twice in a row;

*    Djokovic -   He has been poor in matches immediate after return to tennis - he often lose in Round 2 of tournaments and was really unbale to show form.   A three month lay-off followed y a match against players in a row would be very difficult if what happened this year in matches he played in  are borne in mind'

*    Tsitsipas was up and down this year and was sometimes easily beaten by qualifies'

*     Andy Murray - his return to tennis thus far was not particularly good and he won a few matches and list more than he won.

The whole team Europe was a sentimental "gewrog".   Team Europe was a not the best of players in Europe,    If Alcaraz was there he may have made a huge difference.    The Russian Players would have done so too - but it must be assumed that they were not allowed to play in London.

Novak played 3 matches in 2 days ... of which he won 2 easily. 

that in itself was an remarkable  accomplishment for a man that last played competitive tennis at wimbledon ... which he won. 

im not so sure the use of the word "often" applies to Novak when it comes to early losses. Maybe you should go do your homework there too.

Also, bear in mind that Felix had a great warmup in the doubles before his match against Novak.

McEnroe is the team captain. He doesn't coach anyone. Same applies to Bjorn Borg.

Yes ... of course it was a special farewell to Roger. That was pretty obvious. I said so right from the onset.

To see the 4 best in the last era playing together was  wonderful.

Nadal is past his hest. His body is giving up. 

If the world allows Novak to play again, he will be back at no 1 in no time and will take the slam count to beyond Nadal's 22.

Just for your info ... The Laver cup has never been won by team world ... EVER. This is their first win. 

The tournament is only 5 years old.

Ruud has been in 2 slam finals this year. Nothing lucky about it at all ... so im not quite sure what you are on about regarding him.

Medvedev is not up to scratch these days as you can see by his current ranking and neither is the tantrum throwing Rublev. 

They would not have improved team Europe at all. 

I would have included a class act like Sinner in the mix instead of Norrie.

Sadly Alcaraz declined the invitation to play in the Laver cup. Stupid if you ask me. It was s special farewell to one of the greatest of all time. Who wouldn't want to be a part of something so special?

He's apparently preparing for the coming 2023 season.

Yu aee talking shit as to performances of players again.  I know Medevedev is not in form and not up to standard this year - but he is a hell of a lot a better performer than Murray did and the last game Rublev played against Djokovic was a total disaster for Djokovic in his home town (Belgrade) - it was a 3 setter final and Rublev won the third set 6-1.   In his last game against Sinner Rublev beat him as well.    I would rather have Rublev and Medvedev in the team than Murray and the unfit Nadal.   Above all   I would rather have Alcarez in the team.

Last year Rublev played in 3 matches and he won all three,   Medevedev played in 1 - he would have played another on day 3 - but  the day 3 matches were not needed.    I would rather have Rublev in the team - he won 3 tournaments is his year and Berrettini won zip.   However, you did not know anything about player performances and the Laver Cup is a team competition not an individual competition. and for team competition you do not select under-performing players. like the select committee did with the Springboks this year.    Under-performing players like Steyn, Vermeulen, Jantjies and Mostert should not be in any team - yet they were and disgraced the Springboks.

Anyway - in the end I said Team Europe will lose in the Laver Cup this year and they did.    From Nadal\s comments after the doubles game he played in it sounded like he is also on the point of retirement.    We shall have to wait and see whether he plays in the upcoming tournaments this year,

For you to accuse anyone on sporting issues is evidently coming from the most dishonest member on this site.   I did not state anything above that was not true.    Nadal only played un the show match with Federer and in no other matches in the tournament.    

Djokovic before the Wimbledon Exhibition series was poor in virtually all matches he played in this year - both were factual.   In the Rod Laver tournament he won his first game and lost the second - very much like happened to him in matches this year.

You never had a case anyway.   I quoted your own statement trying to find an excse for departure of Nadal in Round 4.   Nadal's performances against two totally unkwon players in  Rounds 1 and 2 was indeed pathetic.   And the fourtth Round match where he lost was not a tight match at all.
