Looking at the above tournaments if is clear that  some  players are using the two tournaments to stop the slide in their performances and rankings.,   In some cases they are looking at improving their grass court performances , while at the same time they improve and protect their ranking points.

Eastbourne     -        Taylor Fritz                   Ranked 9   Earlier this year was ranked 5)

There are also some fringe players outside of the top 32  that may increase the rankings to above the no 32 ranked players depending on their performances in the relevant tournaments  leading to the need for rankings on Sunday 2 July 2023.    The reason why it normally would not have been done is that the ranking points earned this week do not coundt when it comes to Wimbledon seedings.    

Another reason why points are urgently need required s that there will be no points to be defended in the case of the  Wimbledon tournament since the tournament last year was regarded as an exhibition tournament earning NO ranking points and after Wimbledon the rankings may e vastly different   from the points achieved thus far.
