Last week in Washington Harris caused a huge upset by beating Nadal in Round 2 and this week Nadal is playing Harris again in Toronto.    No big surprise expected this week.

It is difficult to give an indication as to expected performances in this round.   Some observations may be in order:-

*     Medvedev was unpredictable  in clay course matches and on grass.    Opens tadium hard courses are a different proposition and he may in this csse be the favorite.

*     Hurkacz is also rather unpredictable - but he should Basilashvil.

*     Rublev is a toss-up, but hard courts are his favorite surfaceand he may his hands full with the hardserving Isner.    

*   /Ruud to my mind is the hot favorite  to win in this amtch

*    Tsitsipas should win

*     I think Bautista-Agiut has far too many tricks for Dimitrov

*     Opelka and Harris is another toss-up - I hope Harris beats him

At this stage two of the players who were in the 2020 event in London  are out of the list of players who will not be participating in Turin  - namely   Dominic Thiem and Diego  Schwarzman - are out of contention iro 2021,

The participation of Nadal is under serious threat from the no 8 to 12 position on the log at present  - even though he is at present no 7 of the list of 8 players that will participate in the 2021 event.   However, in view of his rather dubious performance record Nadal may opt out of participation in the Turin event, where last year he was the number 2 seeded player and in the end he and Djokovic - the number 1 seed  - were both out of the series in the semi-finals. 

The fact ois that Djokovic also withdrew from the Cincinnati  tournament.   He behaved so badly last year in that tounament that he was banned from playing in the US Open.   He also misbehaved badly after losing to Sverev in the Olympic Games  Final - so that shows a poor reaction to losing matches and may account for his absence from the Cincinnati tournament.

Medvedev played one of the best matches in the final against Opelka  I have ever seen him playing - same as what happened in the semi-final against John Insler.  He won in the semi 6-2 and  6-2 and in the final against  Kopelka  6-4,   6-3.
