Has a winner even been greeted with such stony silence as Sophia Kenin when she beat local favorite Ash Barty in the semi’s. The poor kid is only 21 and tried her best, thanking the crowd for their support. Even then the surly Australian crowd couldn’t raise more than routine tepid applause. Shameful!
One has the sense that Halep is the class of the field...but young Kenin is a fighter, if slightly ‘wired’. No chance of her being penalized for slow serving and her habit of only looking up well after the ball is tossed is bizarre....all part of a slightly demented style.
Still she took the much favored Bart y’s backhand apart today and has a fighter’s chance.
