To become World number 1 he has to -

* beat Sinner in the quarterfinals;

* beat probably Rublev in the semifinal on Friday; and

* beat probably Ruud in the final.

A tough road ahead  - but Carlos is a very tough guy to beat.

That would be amazing.

Let's see what happens.

The main problem for Alcaras may be Rublev- they are often training partners and often train together-so they know each-others game very well.

As far as I could make out Alcaraz may become number 1 if he makes it to final and he may not even be necessary to win the final to be ranked as the number 1 player in the world.

To be fair, you've forgotten about the rightful number 1.

Novak Djokovic.

The only reason he's not there is because of hypocrisy.

If he was allowed to compete in all tournaments, and they gave him the well deserved pts from Wimbledon he would be top dog.

Alcaraz would then be a distant 2nd.

For all we know Djokovic could have won his 10th Australian open title and been even further ahead.

That was a brilliant match.

Best I've seen for a long time.

To come back from 4 match points against him and to deny Sinner victory under such pressure is amazing.

It show his character.

We may have something very special in Alcaraz.

I now hope he goes on to win his first slam and become the youngest world  # 1 in tennis history.

Excellent Summary.

Please note Mozart\s silence on this threat.  He was ridiculing Alcaraz after every opportunity he got and is now in hiding.

My money is on Alcaraz winning the final and becooing the number `1 player in the world.   I will take a double with Alcaraz and Swiatek winning in the tournament.
