Whilst it may have little impact on this game, given there is already 400 plus on the board, but against a better side, and needing a more defendable score, clearly De Kock will run out of partners coming in as late as what he currently does.

He will either run out of partners or lose his wicket unnecessarily because of expansive shots being played because of being 9 down.

In current form, I would move him up the order

If we seriously cannot produce any world-class top order batsmen or if we keep on losing batsmen of the quality of Rilee Rossouw then yes, move De Kock up to 5 or even open with him in tests.
If we have enough strength in the top order then let Quinton de Kock fulfill the same role Adam Gilchrist did for Australia in test matches.
In ODIs and T20s, no question QdK must open.

It is unreal for a player who has failed in almost every test to bat ahead of De Kock.
What does De Kock have to do to gain a higher standing in the batting order over the dismal failure ahead of him?
Drop the failure and move De Kock up in the order and select a batsman who can bat into the squad.
To fail in this test series as a batsman against this dismal SL attack is a disgrace and insult to the players who are knocking at the door to represent their country as well as to us spectators.
Select the best, not the rest.
