South African ODI squad: AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Colin Ingram, Rory Kleinveldt, Ryan McLaren, Morne Morkel, Robbie Peterson, Aaron Phangiso, Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

Phangiso is in as the only front line Spinner, seems he is bound to get gametime.

Kleinveldt gets his first ODI chance.

Behardien is in as a middle order option.

De Kock gets his opportunity, not sure if he will get gametime, will have to wait and see.

Kallis is rested.

Question --- Miller or Behardien?

Thanks Ek. Looks like a powerful squad to me and too much for the kiwis to handle?

I would like to see Quinton playing.

Yeah beeno but again it will be about balance. I do think bringing de Kock in for Kallis and Mclaren in for Duminy might be an option.

Appologies to Robbie for saying that Phangiso is the only spinning option in the Squad, missed that one :)...

Maybe a possible start team:

1. Amla

2. Smith

3. de Villiers

4.  Ingram

5.  du Plessis

6. de Kock

7. Peterson

8. Mclaren

9.  Morkel

10. Steyn

11. Tsotsobe

Despite all the talk - I believe that De Villiers will not last long as wicky and that it is way of getting De Kock through to be wicky in future.   He has been consitent  in batting on all levels of the game and thuis is possibly an opportunity to start him off on ODI's against a slightkly weaker team.

I like your team - but believe that Faf would play ahead of Ingram.

The reason I would like Faf to play lower down the order is his ability to bat with the Tail. I might even have de Kock come in before him.

To me Faf's future role is much the same as the role that Mike hussey has fullfilled in the past. Strong batsman that can come in lower down the order and organise the tail.

Ek

I firmly believe that the Paarl track favours spin bowlers and for that reason the team to play on Saturday will probably be slightly different from the one you published earlier.   The other problem relates to the demand of the politicos on selection.

1. Amla

2. Smith

3. de Villiers

4. Behardien

5. du Plessis

6. de Kock (w/k)

7. Peterson

8. Mclaren

9. Morkel

10. Steyn

11  Phangiso

It would be a pity to leave out Ingram - but I believe that the selectors are trying to phase in De Kock as Wicket keeper and that may be the reason for playing De Kock ahead of Ingram.

Tsotsobe's recent form - ie before his recent injury - is not providing any confidence - hence my suggestion of a spinner ahead of him

It Does Make sense Mike, playing the two spinners. Would you rather play Tsosobe or MacClaren. Lonwabo is the better bowler on form(maybe he hits form) while Ryan is a better batsman. It is the number 8 position though, so purely as a bowler I would go for Lonwabo however, Ryan is in good form and can contribute with the bat if need be.

That might be the side...If they go for the two spinning option.

de Kock also does look to be in better form as a batsman than Ingram, so that might also happen.
