Well it’s certainly stirred things up. It’s getting traction because it serves a need…..players with great name brands a little past their peaks, but not noticeably old guys like those in the Senior tour.

There are also things LIV can do to target player grievances. Like the 4 day tournament format…3 will be much more popular. Tour covered travel, providing caddies, shot gun starts so everybody plays at the same time not in different conditions.

Then there is the money which is more generous and more certain. But they make so much you may think…but that’s the top 20 or so. Given costs many of these guys are pretty tight.

Which makes the player take out of the events contentious. Augusta makes a huge amount every year, with players getting less than 10%…seen by many as not fair.

So there is a lot of material for LIV to work with and the money is going to be frustrating to every PGA tour player….although endorsements insulate the likes of Rory.

It may not all be about money, but money is the elephant in the room. And the Saudis have the deepest  pockets and answer to no one. The more the PGA acts tough, the more likely the Saudis are to drown them in a bucket of money.

As far as individuals are concerned it’s no different than rugby players going to Japan….it’s in their best interests.

The IPL of Golf then... ... but not quite either...I don't follow golf, but it seems like the first innovation in decades.

The other vulnerability the PGA has  is their schedule…..Majors from April to July and the rest lesser tournaments of limited interest. The FedEx Cup is supposed to be the late summer event, but I have played the course in Atlanta, it and the event are not that interesting.

If LIV schedule the world’s top paying event annually in November  at a spectacular course like Cape Kidnappers  in NZ, they would have a strong competitive product .
