I see that De Kock had a brilliant batting game in the Sunfoil Series.   The sooner this youngster is drafted into the national squad to replace Boucher as Wicktekeeper the better it would be for SA Cricket.

Agreed 110%. This kid is the future. Only problem is where does he bat. under normal circumstances he is an opener........ hoever he is batting well because thami is wicketkeeper. Quentin hasn't kept wicket in a while. He has been compared to gilchrist in the past. so might be that his batting won't go down if he keeps or his keeping doesn't go down if he focusses on his batting. that is still to be decided. But AB with the captaincy should only captain and bat at nr 4. Develop Quetin into the first line keeper and hope it doesn't influence his batting.

As far as I can remember he did not bat as opener in the Sunfoil game - think he was number 3.   I think that we all must accept that Kallis will have to retire some time or another.   That is probably not the case at present - but what will happen say in two years time?    I think that maybe D Kock should bat at 4 with the others moving 1 down.   When Kallis eventually go - move him to 3 and bring in an allrounder at 7 - where Boucher normally batted.

 that is an option, but who do you leave out to make space and give him high pressure experience that he needs.

I would say that from the test side the most likely player to be under threat is Rudolph - from the one-day side probably Du Plessis.    However, it all depends on the Kallis situation in ODI.s.   In the case of 20-20 I would imagine that Peterson may be the one to go - but Botha is leaving our shores and he may be the one to go.

 A dilemma but yes someone is bound to suffer if they make space for him, and make space for him they have to.....

@Ek

he kept wicket in the U19 WC and in last seasonas T20.

Im so excited at the prospect of us potentially having our own Gilly!

He is fantastic.

One thing worth mentioning...

He hasnt had an easy life... dont really want to mention specifics... but he has endured hardships, which could benefit him in interntional cricket. ... He has life in perspective and will know how to deal with challenges thrown at him.

Good luck Quinton!

Flash

I allways admire people that can in the end win throiugh hard times.   De Kock will be subjected to virtually unlimited media scrutiny - should he be selected for higher honours and the media can be very cruel and crude.

Hope he can survive that scrutiny and make the grade in that case as well - matter of fact I am sure he will .

 yes Flash i realise he kept wicket at the u 19 WC. I meant at first class level he has only been focussing on his batting. so yeas i feel the Lions need to give him an extended run as well so we can see how he copes with both jobs in the long term there. Not so sure if it is going to happen with thami there. Also if he gets selected for higher honours he needs to do both plain and simple, wicketkeeping first however so then we focus on where he will fit into the lineup as a batsman.

Quinton was selected as Under 19 wicketkeeper by Cricket SA - so I am sure they are watching carefully what is happening on that front.   I only hope he gets more game time in that capacity - that would in fact be the ideal situation.   However, at this stage they seem toi think Tsolekile is the one to replace Boucher - at least he was sent to England as back-up, but I do not think he has it in him to succeed.   Remember they tried him out in the past and he failed - that type of thing is remembered .   In any event - at 32 he can at best be a stopgap player - not an investment for the future.   Hope they go for De Kock asap.

 My thinking as well Mike. i just don't get how they can consider a 32 year old as the future. Yes they are giving Quitin the chance at u19 level. but clearly he is outclassing the kids. He needs to play with the big boys. And he should get the opportunity and not just in a game here and there, he should get a run for a few games at least. It will be far better in the long run. He is such a phenominal talent but it's as if the powers that be don't want to fast track that. If as Flash says it's true that his personality and life experience will help him in that regard, then why the hell not at least give him a long run at the LKions for starters. He is getting game time as a batsman only, that is not to say unappreciated but a 32 year old is standing in his way and it's not like the old guy is really better than him.
