….as the number one player for the year. Only Federer and Sampras are close at 6. Coming back from a 7 week layoff he has accomplished his objective.

Bound to have his third loss against Medvedev in  YEAR OUT OF 4 PLAYED.   If the real rating system was in place n the period end 2019 to August 2021 was in place - Djokovic would have been somewhere around 3rd of 4th rated player in the world.    

Congrats to Djokovic - so the count in games between him and Medvedev is 2 each in the past year,     

A brilliant backhand up the line followed by a forehand which painted the line and the Joker was home.  What happened to “bound to have his third loss against Medvedev”?

Here’s my tuppence worth. Firstly the Joker was stressed out in the USOpen final and a backboard like Medvedev was the worst kind of opponent.

In Paris he simply restored the natural order. And he brought two things to the party. Firstly serve and volley tennis on many points….a joy to see in a world of tennis robots….and evidence of Djokovic’s constant evolution.  And secondly his serve where he landed the first serve much more often than Medvedev in the tradition of Borg and Sampras when they needed to win a big set.

What of Medvedev, Tsitsipas and Zverev? They remain a level below unable to sustain a high level. Medvedev who has at least won a major, continues to play Erasmus tennis….eschewing much of the game like the volley and  the inside out forehand and relying heavily on defence.  A depressingly boring player but competent player , satisfied to do what he knows, unlike the Big Three who gained tennis longevity by constantly evolving.

It was a good game - but nothing really brilliant.  Calm down now - he won and praise songs must wait till the real test comes in the Championship  played in Turin.    Yes the big three are not evolving anymore - the only one showing some life still is Djokovic - the other two are finished.   

You cannot help yourself - talking BS about Erasmus games - you are constantly hoping for the Springboks to loose so that you have a real reason to attack the present coaching staff.   In the me antime you have been talking BS about that for three years now - so i do not expect anything bar further BS from you.

The only one showing ‘some life’…..you mean winning 3 of 4 majors, losing in the Finals of the other…..and then coming back after a 7 week layoff and beating the man he lost to?

Well - winning three majors and only 1 other tournament while being disgraced in 7 other tournaments is just sheer comedy.   Lets wait and see what happens in the EOY championships - that is the most highest rated tournament of all in  the eyar and is rated as such by the players themselves.   If  Djokovic  with his last win in that one being 20015 - won that tournament this year I will agree with you that he is still the real top player in the world  - if not he is not really what you claim he is.
