the present point system was changed in 2020 to benefit Djokovic, Nadal and Federer by allowing them to retain the points they got in 2019 and even earlier in calculation of the points, Unlike in previous years where if they won a tournament and in the succeeding year they did not play in the same tournament or got out of contention - they would lose points.
Most of the players regard the retention of points from 2019 as a farce and the system will in August be changed to the pre-existing system after Wimbledon. The fact is that if Djokovic, Nadal and Federer do not play regularly in tournaments - they are going to be out of the top 10 sooner rather than later.
