The Veterans continue to rule men's tennis....30 is the new 25!
Nah ... there's no comparison between the two.
Rugby veterans have broken, tired bodies. They're worn down to a nub and take a lot longer to recover after each match ... even if it's only 80 minutes long. Look at old man Vermeulen. He can hardly make the first twenty without walking.
The young own the game. The old fool themselves into thinking they can continue forever.
Agree re tennis success come later and players last longer.
But maybe three greats in Federer, Nadal and Doks are falsifying the picture
Sadly we saw the younger players take the elderly folks out in this years ATP finals.
I expect we'll see them start dominating men's tennis in 2020.
Thiem and Tsitsipas are going to contest many a final, What a cracker of a match that was. Fitting end to the year.
Medvedev cracks easily under pressure and will never reach the heights of Nadal and co. He's a little grey man that relies on his opponents mistakes to win matches. A bore if you ask me.
No doubt Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are three of the greatest players in the world ever.
The winning of tournaments by Federer is becoming very rare - he did well early in tournaments but later phase out. Nadal has a lesser problem - but in two tournaments this year he was injured before the semi's were played and Djokovic are not the player he used to be..
I think the three of them are actually slowly going out of being real competitors in tournaments. Maybe some minor tournaments - not the majors other than Nadal in the French Open perhaps,
The so=called rugby veterans are often destructive in rugby and fact is rugby players are part of the structure that caused massive damage to the Springbok team in 2014-15. The over 30's performance record in 2018-19 and in the end - bar Mtawarira and Vermeulen was use on the bench or in minor tests, Even Vermeulen was not maintaining high rate work performance on some tests this year and was iffy in a few tests as well.
As CC said - there is no comparison between tennis players and rugby players - the one game is a physical contact sport - the other is not.
I'm not against the elderly playing sport. If they're good enough to compete then by all means go at it. It's when they can no longer keep up with the young that irritates me.
Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are still the best in the world. Their skill levels are still right up there.
If anything, I think their lack of hunger will see them losing more matches as each year goes by.
