Draad to me its kallis or Bradman. Brad need 4 more runs to have ended a long test career of 20 years (retired at age 40 interrupted by second wolrd war) with an average of 100. His average in the famous bodyline test dropped to something like 60 I think it was.Hence without illegal bodyline bowling bringing him down to mortal averages his normalised average would have been above 100. Sheffield Shield average of 110!Anyone thinking Viv Richards even came remotely close to Bradman is daft or just doesnt know Bradman's record.
Kallis has a great batting record AND has done well as a test bowler as well. So who is the best. One of these two. Bradman was also an astute captain. Kallis a great slip fielder.Kallis has a better record than Sobers. To me its out of these two. Bradman 40 runs more on average  - does that make up for the wickets Kallis has taken?

Ahhhh but Beeno

The very beeeeg question is

If Bradman was scrutinised and referred as many times as the modern day greats like Kallis or Tendulkar, would he have the same stats.

Me don't think so.

LBW

Stumpings

Catches in the field

Runouts

Nicks - Caught Behind

Any Hotspot referral - Gloves etc

4's

6's

Include that in a large portion of Bradman's career, as Kallis and Tendulkar had to endure, and he would never have got the average he did.

No doubt, close to the best player ever, if not the best, but we are not, and never can, compare apples with apples.

Do you guys know who is the only cricketer to ever score 48 runs in an over?

Yes, in those days the over consisted of 8 balls.

8 balls x 6 sixes = 48 runs in one over.

That in my opinion was one of the best cricketers of my time. Not because he scored 48 runs in one over but for all his other cricket performamces.

Jim Laker playing for the MCC in the fifties.

This was in a Test match for the guys who don't know or have never heard or read about English MCC teams.

It is very unfair to select any player as the best of all time as times and the game have developed.

But I know that many Saffers regard F du Plessis and Dummy as the best flops in SA colours.

Jacques Henry Kallis without a doubt....not only has he carried a team but his presence is not something that comes around often.

I know people punt bradman but in playing in those times was totally different than today so one cannot really compare players from era's. seeing that there is a whole science in trying to work batsman out ext I am not sure bradman would have had such a massive impact in todays game.

Can't believe some of the tripe on this thread.

Don Bradman's batting statistics are freakish not just for cricket but for any sportsman in any sport. This from Wikipedia:

World sport context

Wisden hailed Bradman as, "the greatest phenomenon in the history of cricket, indeed in the history of all ball games".[2] Statistician Charles Davis analysed the statistics for several prominent sportsmen by comparing the number of standard deviations that they stand above the mean for their sport.[241] The top performers in his selected sports are:[242]

Athlete Sport Statistic Standard
deviations Bradman Cricket Batting average 4.4 Pelé Association football Goals per game 3.7 Ty Cobb Baseball Batting average 3.6 Jack Nicklaus Golf Major titles 3.5 Michael Jordan Basketball Points per game 3.4

The statistics show that "no other athlete dominates an international sport to the extent that Bradman does cricket".[3] In order to post a similarly dominant career statistic as Bradman, a baseball batter would need a career batting average of .392, while a basketball player would need to score an average of 43.0 points per game.[242] The respective records are .366 and 30.1.[242]

Some people reckon Bradman's batting stats are inflated because the bowlers weren't as good as they are today. Well, what about his contemporaries? How come Wally Hammond, Len Hutton, Stan McCabe and George Headley don't have test averages close to 100?

The fact that people are even suggesting alternatives to Don Bradman shows either massive ignorance or else a complete lack of respect for one of the most incredible statistics in any sport.
