Wimbledon Lost the Plot

The APT and WTA has decided that the actions of the Organizers of the Wimbledon and other Tournaments in England in banning players for Russia and Belarus  have caused a major agreement problems for the two organizations,  They had to stop the rot and decided that the tournaments ranking points have been nullified. From a monetary perspective - player participating in the events wo; get paid - but that is not why reason for their involvement in the the Wimbledon tournament - but especially for the top ten players it is of paramount importance.

That means that the ranking points gained last year has been nullified and that means that a player like Djokovic will lose 2 000 points and drop down to number 4 or 5 of the race to Turin participation.    In fact he is in a mess.    At present Djokovic  is going into the French Open he won last year -  with about a 15% chance of winning that tournament.    He stand to lose up to 1 40 000  points if he does not win/    Why the low rating?   Djokovic thus far this year played in five tournament nd won in Rome.    He earned only 1 610  grading points  in 5 tournaments played this year,   Of those 1 000  points  were earned in  Rome - the other 4 tournament gave him a total of 614 points.    Most of those showed poor performances  - while key players were absent from the Rome tournament.   

That would leave Djokocvic with about 5 500 points - ie soewhere around 5h  to 7th rnked player on tour,           

Cameron Norrie claims that the ranking point deletion would turn Wimbledon into an exhibition series - not a grand slam.

It is possible that a number of top players will not apply to play at Wimbledon this year partly because of the above and partly because of their friendship with Russian and Belarus players.   It is a fact that thee are close ties between especially Medvedev and the leading Spanish players - while Rublev is because of his honesty and gentleman-like conduct highly respected by fellow-players and a much sought-after fiend of many players from al countries,   He regularty train with especially Spanish players like Alcaraz.    .     .

All the Russian and Belarus players have condemned the war publicly and to blame them for the war is farfetched and irrational.   The English and American media is trying to force the players to denounce the leadership of their countries as illegitimate and that is a real political problem - especially since they have families in the two countries that could come under pressure. in their home countries.

I suspect that players like Djokovic,  Alcaraz, Tsitsipas and Zverev will choose not to play at Wimbledon at all as a result of the whole scenario anyway,     The result s of Wimbledon in 2022 will not be officially recognized as legitimate anyway.                    

In terms of the following Wimbledon 2022  will not be a grand slam tournament - but an exhibition tournament:-

"The ATP’s decision has had a significant impact on the players’ ranking points. Aside from ranking points, there is also an impact on Wimbledon prize money, which will decrease. Official authorities have yet to release the prize money breakdown for the 2022 Wimbledon Championship. However, the prize money budget for 2021 was £35 million, which was divided among several categories. As a result, this year’s budget was expected to be roughly £35 million. Due to the ATP’s decision, this year’s Wimbledon will be an exhibition tournament, hence the prize money will be slashed in half."

That being the case I think a lot of the Top 30 players will duck out of the 2022  Tournament - since it will not be worthwhile when prize money is slashed by half and there is no prestige in winning this "exhibition tournament".      .

The situation may changeif the Organizes change their attitude about participation of Russian and Beyele Russian players and  the WTF and ATP will re-instate points and prize money to the 2021 level and that is likely to restore the Tournament to his proper status.   It is very likely that the Organizers will change their stance by Wednesday next week - lets wait and see whether that in fact happens.          .    

The English organizers of Wimbledon is trying to get the decisions of the WTA, the ATP and the ITL as to rating points and prize money cancelled  - their whole point si not made on politicial issues  with nothing to do with tennis or tennis players.    

They also amde a dubious claim that p[layers from Russia will face danger in the UK - but that is total BS.    Politics in sport is an abomination effecting innocent people who in this case already declared their opposition to the Ukraine invasion by Russia - something the players themsleves can do nothing about.   

What we have here is a farce and I hope the ITL and the other player bodies do not agree to thei latest request.
